Through unknown circumstances, the world seems to... Temporarily lose focus over short spans of time. These rifts in reality are extremely dangerous. To combat this, citizens long ago developed a system to constrain these abnormalities to small spaces, usually visualized as small jars. Nobody knows exactly how or why it works, and nobody really questions it in fear of it the world overhearing, and just fixing the issue. But pity the fool who thinks he can make himself its master...
The Rift is a Neutral / Hostile Entity. Its only effects are vision related and do not affect core gameplay that much.
Rifts can randomly spawn around the player every 216000 ticks. Players who get to close to them will slowly gain the Zero Matter drug effect, which will gradually impair their ability to see for a short duration or so long as they are within range of the rift's effects.
Rifts can be artificially created by releasing a large amount of zero matter in one place using a filled Rift Jar.
Rifts will gradually fluctuate, grow, and shrink in size. For the most part they do nothing when left alone and will close by themselves, however when tampered with by a player using a rift jar, they can become unstable and eventually explode causing damage to the surrounding area in the form of corrupted terrain made out of Glitch blocks.
Rifts are an optional part of the mod and their spawning can be turned off or adjusted at any time by changing the randomTicksUntilRiftSpawn
Mod Configuration value. Setting it to 0
any value below will fully disable rift spawning, whilst setting it higher will make them spawn less frequently.
Rifts are the primary source of Zero Matter which has the effect of turning the player's vision into a matrix-esque representation of what they're looking at. Zero is a pseudo-fluid (i.e. not a real fluid) that can be collected from rifts using a Rift Jar, as well as released again to trigger the effect when desired.
