Key Types (Fingering)

  • This pattern changes the way the corresponding key is struck depending on the situation. These key types have a high degree of freedom and can be used in a variety of ways. Perhaps because of this characteristic, many key types have their own peculiarities.

5key

Keyboard layout with arrow key types

Keyboard layout for two-handed play

  • The Onigiri, which is synonymous with Dancing Onigiri, is the 5key with the arrow keys next to it. It is common to play with the arrow keys and space, a one-handed 5key typing style.

  • There are two distinct two-handed 5key styles, such as "D F J K Space" and "D F J K L," which are similar to 7key. There is also a two-handed style, in which the same arrow keys and space are played with both hands, depending on the situation.

  • The advantage of using two-handed 5key typing is that it reduces the load on the player when there are multiple simultaneous presses in a row. On the other hand, it is said to be unsuitable for charts with many Onigiris because it concentrates on the arrow keys.

  • Despite its simplicity, 5key has a variety of ways to play and a wide range of chart styles.
In a sense, it can be said to be versatile.

12key

[ Key types database for Taken : 12key / 8key(12key(lower column)) ]

  • Among the key types in Dancing Onigiri, the 12key is the most habit-forming key type. Use the keyboard vertically, sharing the arrows between the left and right fingers as you process.

  • You need to handle the arrows in the upper row (U I 8 O), middle row (J K L), and lower row (N M < >), while holding down where they come. How to push the arrows depends on the situation.

  • The feature of this key type is to have a certain basic pattern in your mind and break it down as needed. Because of the complexity of the key type, there are also some charts that focus only on the lower row or only on some of the keys.

14key

[ Key types database for Taken : 14key ]

  • In contrast to the 12key, which has a strong habit, the 14key has additional left and right diagonal arrows. The additional upper row gives a wider range, and more flexible handling is required. Although it gives the impression of being an enhanced version of the 12key, it also has many alternative keys, so it can be said to have different characteristics.

11ikey

[ Key types database for Taken : 11ikey ]

  • It is an irregular 11key keyboard with 4 keys lined up around D (Giko) and K (Iyo) and a Onigiri in the middle. This classification was made because of its unique key arrangement, which requires the player to tilt his or her hands as necessary.

17key

[ Key types database for Taken : 17key ]

  • The 17key is lined with many arrows on the left and right and a Onigiri in the middle.
  • By setting the scroll to Alternate, the key type can be separated into 9key+9key. Combined with the visibility of the key type, makes it one of the key types that has attracted much attention.

23key

[ Key types database for Taken : 23key / 15key(23key(lower column)) ]

  • 23key is a 12key double play that appeared at the Multi-Key Festival '20.
It is characterized by its ability to be played widely vertically and horizontally, and is very flexible.
