The Edit Mode custom options menu allows report authors to configure advanced visual behaviors, data rules, and layout structures directly within the Gantt visual. You can enter Edit Mode by clicking the ellipsis (...) in the top-right corner of the visual container in Power BI and selecting Edit.

1. Edit Mode Configuration Pages

Once in Edit Mode, you can access the following configuration panels (each detailed in its own dedicated guide):

  • Group Columns: Manage multi-level column groupings in the grid.
  • Events: Configure single-date events and event ranges across the timeline.
  • Conditional Formatting: Create rulesets and color scales to color taskbars dynamically.
  • Days Off: Define working calendars, weekends, and holidays.
  • Custom Date Filters: Create custom date range shortcuts for viewers.

2. Edit Mode Format Pane Settings

You can customize Edit Mode performance settings in the Power BI Format pane under the EditMode Options card.

Limit Row Count

(New in Gantt v3.1)

You can restrict the number of rows rendered on the canvas while you are working in Edit Mode. This setting only applies to the report author's design interface and does not affect the final report layout seen by report viewers.

Limiting row counts makes the visual significantly faster to work with when designing reports with very large datasets. For example, you can configure the visual to only load the first parent task row and its children.
