Safety Standards

General Safety Standards

Atmospherics

  • Living spaces must be kept between 0℃-40℃
  • Living spaces should have an atmosphere composed of air.
  • Pressure should be 80kPa-120kPa

Pipe Networks

Canister Fillers

  • Canister fillers should have a pressure regulator of some kind.
  • Canister fillers should have a back pressure regulator of some kind to account for thermal expansion of gas.
Incident Report 1:
  1. O₂ and N₂ canister fill stations didn't have back pressure regulators or other safety systems.
  2. One of the canisters exploded, rupturing the surrounding pipes, and damaging some larger tanks.
  3. Volatiles, nitrogen and oxygen pipes ruptured and high pressure gas filled the room.
  4. Some time after the first rupture, surrounding walls started to break, releasing the high pressure gas to surrounding rooms.
  5. Many seconds after the initial rupture, An outside wall broke, and exposed the high pressure explosive gas mixture to 460℃ Venusian air, instantly igniting the gas mixture.
  6. The fire caused a huge pressure and temperature spike in the already high pressure gas, causing more walls to break even faster, and spreading the fire to all rooms connected to the origin point.

Power Networks

Electrical Rooms

  • Electrical rooms must have some form of cooling and or ventilation to prevent overheating.

Chute Networks

Rocket Facility Safety

Fuel Systems

Fuel Storage

  • Oxidizers and volatiles should be stored in separate tanks.
  • Pre-mixed fuel should not be stored.
    • Small amounts of Pre-mixed fuel may exist in small pipe networks.

Rocket Refueling

  • The fuel storage of the rocket should be connected to a cryogenic cooler at all times when on the launch pad.
  • There must be a way to evacuate the contents of the tanks to a safe location in case of over pressure.

Cryogenic Systems

  • The cryogenic cooler temperature should be monitored and an alarm activated if the temperature rises above 100K (-173.15℃) for any reason.
    • The temperature reading should be taken from the output network.

Furnace Safety

Furnace Explosion Maximum Affected Area (Might not be the absolute maximum possible)

Open Air Furnaces

Enclosed Furnaces

Composters

Composter have different safety requirements based on if they are placed outdoors or indoors.

Open Air Composters

Enclosed Composters

  • Advanced Composters should be located in a sealed room and accessible via an airlock.
    • The room needs to be pressure regulated to prevent over or under pressure failure.

Signs

Symbols

  • These symbols have been or will be assigned a certain meaning when on a sign.
