Description
Soap is a substance used for washing material, especially wool before its processing.
Recipes
Soap is made from fats and ash in a involving several steps.
Wood Ash Lye
Make Weak Wood Ash Lye by soaking Ash in Fresh Water and leaving it for 20 hours. Each 200 mB of Fresh Water and 1 Ash produces 200 mB of Weak Wood Ash Lye. A Cooking Pot full of Fresh Water will make 5000 mB of Weak Wood Ash Lye consuming 25 Ash.
Boil Weak Wood Ash Lye in a Cooking Pot without a lid to produce concentrated Wood Ash Lye, while reducing its volume by a half. I.e. 1000 mB of Weak Wood Ash Lye becomes 500 mB of Wood Ash Lye.
Add a volume of Wood Ash Lye into a Cooking Pot containing equal volume of Fresh Water to dilute the Wood Ash Lye, again producing double the volume of Weak Wood Ash Lye. I.e. 500 mB of Wood Ash Lye added into 500 mB of Fresh Water becomes 1000 mB of Weak Wood Ash Lye.
Solid Fats
Melt Tallow in a Cooking Pot over a fire, then add appropriate amount of Wood Ash Lye. The required ratio is 5 parts Tallow and 4 parts Wood Ash Lye.
The suggested amount of Tallow to be melted is 10oz, which can be easily prepared using a Cooking Prep, producing 625 mB of liquid Tallow. Then add 500 mB of Wood Ash Lye using a Large Bowl or a bottle.
The amount of 20oz of Tallow can also be melted, producing 1250 mB of liquid Tallow, which in turn will require 1000 mB of Wood Ash Lye, using a glass bottle.
Other amounts are possible as long as long a container exists that can provide the needed volume of Wood Ash Lye, although as with other Cooking Pot mixing recipes the very exact amount is not required.
Cook the mixture of Tallow and Wood Ash Lye in a Cooking Pot with LOW heat for about 3 hours to make liquid Soap.
At last, remove the heat source from the Cooking Pot and allow the liquid soap to solidify, producing a bar of soap.
Liquid Fats
Put Olive Oil in a Cooking Pot over a fire, then add appropriate amount of Weak Wood Ash Lye. The required ratio is 4 parts Olive Oil and 1 part Weak Wood Ash Lye.
When 2000 mB of Olive Oil is added into a Cooking Pot a Large Bowl can be used to deliver the required amount of Weak Wood Ash Lye.
Other amounts are possible as long as long a container exists that can provide the needed volume of Weak Wood Ash Lye, although as with other Cooking Pot mixing recipes the very exact amount is not required.
Cook the mixture of Olive Oil and Weak Wood Ash Lye in a Cooking Pot with LOW heat for about 5 hours to make liquid Uncured Soap.
At last, remove the heat source from the Cooking Pot and allow the liquid soap to solidify, producing a bar of Uncured Soap.
Uncured Soap
Uncured Soap represents soap made using liquid fats such as Olive Oil, which is not suitable to be used directly by the player.
Currently there is no way to cure Uncured Soap.
Usage
Soap can be used directly by player by right clicking Fresh Water or a Barrel or a Large Vessel containing Fresh Water.
Using a Soap consumes 1 oz of weight. In addition, the player is rewarded with a small amount of XP, if at least 6 hours has passed since last time the player was rewarded.
Uncured soap cannot be used directly by the player.
Soapy Water
Soapy Water is produced by dissolving Soap or Uncured Soap in Fresh Water in a Cooking Pot. Soap is partially consumed, 1 oz per 500 mB of Fresh Water, and in case of Uncured Soap, 2 oz per 500 mB.
Soapy Water can be used to wash freshly cut Wool before it is processed. Rinsing wool that has been washed in Soapy Water is instantaneous and consumes less water, as opposed to soaking freshly cut wool, which takes several hours.
Notes
- Wood Ash is generated in a Firepit.
Future enhancements
- Clothes made from textile fabrics can be washed in Soapy Water to improve their durability slightly.
- Adding components to liquid soap will be possible to receive additional XP reward when used.
