Description

Tallow is rendered suet and is available as a liquid when warm and a food item when cool.

Recipe

Suet is acquired by butchering a Cow, Goat or Sheep. The amount of suet dropped depends on the type, size and age of the animal, and is about 10% of the amount of meat dropped.

Suet is then rendered in a Cooking Pot with a lid on. LOW heat is required. Rendered suet becomes liquid Tallow.

Liquid Tallow will solidify in a Cooking Pot with no heat. Solidified tallow can be melted again in a Cooking Pot with heat.

Usage

Liquid tallow can be used to make candles by placing strings in the Cooking Pot, similar to how wax candles are made.

Solidified tallow can be consumed as is for protein or used in meals as an ingredient.

Pemmican

Solidified tallow can be used as an ingredient in making Pemmican on a Cooking Prep surface together with a Tiny Rawhide, lean meat (beef, mutton, venison and horse meat) and optionally berries and flour or crushed grain.

The rawhide serves as a wrapping and is returned when the Pemmican is entirely consumed. If the Pemmican somehow manages to spoils, the rawhide is ruined however.

Pemmican sealed in a rawhide stays fresh and will not decay at all for 6 months after crafting but it will start to slowly decay after that. Once eaten the Pemmican will decay at a slightly higher rate, whether 6 months have passed or not.

Notes

• The decay rate of tallow is reduced so it is able to last a long time.
• Suet from an average goat and sheep butchered by a player with no butchering skill will yield about 24oz of solid tallow.
• Suet from an average cow butchered by a player with no butchering skill will yield about 160oz of solid tallow.
• To make one tallow candle, 200mB of liquid tallow is needed, which translates to 3.2oz of solid tallow.
