Drying Surface - unforbidable/tfcplus-bids GitHub Wiki
Description
Drying surface allows items to be processed naturally without player interaction over a period of time by the effects of the environment.
Construction
Place a valid item on a valid surface to create Drying Surface. Up to 4 items can occupy a single Drying surface.
Processing
Items are processed according to the conditions of the environment specified by recipes. The following environmental parameters are considered:
- Humidity
- Exposure to rain and sunlight
- Temperature
- Rainfall
- Airflow
When environmental conditions change and no longer meet the requirements, the processing can either be paused or depending on each recipe, in extreme cases, items can get ruined.
Environmental conditions can be adjusted by the player in the following ways:
- Proximity to fire source enhances temperature and greatly reduces effective humidity.
- Roof above prevents exposure to rain, but slightly reduces drying speed.
Rain causes humidity to raise to 100 even indoors, so a fire source is usually needed to continue drying during rain.
Some recipes require items to be dampened in rain. The rainfall value is considered when determining the amount of rainfall that occurs during rain.
Lack of cover speeds up drying during the day due to exposure to direct sunlight, but presents a risk of rain.
Airflow is important for drying and certain measure of open space is expected. Specifically, there needs to be at least 1 non-solid block above for any airflow to begin with. For maximum airflow, a sufficient number of non-solid blocks is required the sides combined. Chimney is considered a non-solid block, however a roof block is not.
Specifically, each side contributes to airflow n*(n+1)/2, where n is the furthest consecutive non-solid block, up to the total of 10. For example, 4 non-solid blocks in any direction ensure maximum air flow.
Mud bricks
Mud bricks are dried in 2 stages - first on their belly, then on their side. Once the first stage is finished, activate the second stage by picking the drying mud brick up and placing it again, or by simply right-clicking it.
Extensive rain can ruin a drying mud brick, revering it back into mud. Dry climate or cover is advised for drying mud bricks.
Retting plants
Retting plants requires repeated dampening by rain. Progress occurs during and after rain while the plant is damp.
Drying plants
Drying plants is paused during and after rain, while the plant is damp.
Plants that finish the retting process will automatically start drying as soon as the drying conditions are met.
Drying clothes
Drying damp clothes is possible when just placed on the ground, and they will get wet if rained on.
Recipes
| Input | Output | Requirements | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uncured Soap | Soap | Dry + Cover | |
| Wet Mud Brick | Drying Mud Brick | Dry | Destroyed in rain |
| Drying Mud Brick | Mud Brick | Dry | Destroyed in rain |
| Flax Stalk | Retted Flax Stalk | Wet + Warm | |
| Retted Flax Stalk | Dried Flax Stalk | Dry |
Notes
- Drying Surface is suitable for retting plants, but less ideal for drying than Drying Rack.
- Soil surfaces make items easier to become wet during rain and non-soil surfaces make items easier to loose their wetness after rain.
