Settings

The Settings tab is divided into eight groups. Each section can be expanded; only one is open at a time.

Recording and energy

  • Tracking Profiles & Energy: background profile, motion detection, automatic accuracy, sensitivity. Details: Energy and Battery.
  • Home automation: the trip starts when you leave the "Home" area and ends after an adjustable standstill time after returning. You set radius and standstill time. The radius should be between 100 m and 500 m: below that the area becomes jittery due to GPS noise, above that the trip starts too late. You need a place with the category "Home" and the location permission "Always".
  • Working time: optional logging with a prompt on arrival or departure, default radius and dwell time. If the prompt arrives as a notification, you can long-press it to start or end directly, use the arrival or departure time, or ignore it.

The automation has optional beacons (vehicle and home) that detect trip start and end faster. They need Bluetooth and "Always" location. Details: Places and POIs.

Display and map

  • Map: north up, traffic display, map style (standard, hybrid, satellite), 3D view, haptics.
  • Effects: animations, including a warning animation that only appears during an active hazard warning.
  • Display while tracking: keep the screen awake during a trip.
  • Live Activity & Dynamic Island: see Energy and Battery.

Navigation and announcements

  • Navigation: choose the default navigation app, duration of the instruction at the top, automatic route optimisation for traffic, destination prediction, departure time tips, appointment reminders from the calendar (lead time, time buffer, planned departures), weather warnings on the route, speed limit (display, warning tone, tolerance).   • Routing & Offline Maps: download and manage map data. Details: Offline Maps.
  • Personal routing: learn arrival times from your own trips, re-evaluate or delete what has been learned.
  • Voice output: voice, limit announcements to the essentials, short instructions in town, announcement of turning right-of-way roads, bend warnings (optionally only outside towns), audio output: automatic, iPhone speaker (with its own volume) or hands-free kit (with an adjustable pause before the announcement, filled with silence so the connection stays open).
  • Voice start: speak destinations; on-device recognition can be forced.

Warnings

  • Warnings & tones: main switch, banner in foreground, read banner aloud, system notifications, alert tone, automatic closing, radius and cooldown, speed cameras (optional).
  • Data sources and categories: Overpass, Mobilithek, Unfallatlas, Autobahn GmbH and HERE Traffic (optional, with your own key), and which types of reports are shown. Details: Warnings.

Places and POIs

  • Auto-POI: detect places automatically, minimum time and radius, minimum distance, no auto-POIs when driving fast.
  • Visibility & Categories: which places and categories appear on the map.
  • Auto-POI maintenance: tidy up automatically created places.

Data and backup

  • iCloud backup (from 4.95 build 4): "Back up to iCloud" stores a backup of all data (trips with points, places, logbook, working times, OBD data, settings) in your iCloud Drive; a new one replaces the previous one. "Restore from iCloud" brings it back after a reinstall; restart the app once afterwards. The date of the last backup is shown. Replaces the former iCloud sync.
  • Back up data / Import: export and import of places (JSON), trips (JSON, GPX), all data (JSON) and working times (CSV). A snapshot export is intended for the Mac evaluation tool "JourneyPulse Analyzer".

Vehicle and interfaces

  • CarPlay: enable, trip start/stop, save POI, report hazard, maneuver preview, consumption display. Details: CarPlay.
  • OBD Adapter (Beta): see OBD.
  • MCP interface (Beta): starts a local server through which AI tools can query trips, places and status. The server is reachable on the local network but only answers requests with an access token. The token is shown hidden in the settings; you can copy and renew it; after renewing, connected clients must enter the new token. Only enable it if you want to, and don't share the token.

App

  • Language: German or English, switches immediately.
  • Permissions: status and jump into the iOS settings.
  • Guide & Info:
    • App guide: short guide in the app. At the end is The Story of JourneyPulse.
    • Wiki in browser: opens this wiki.
    • About JourneyPulse: version, changelog, link to the privacy policy.
    • Support the app: donation via SumUp; the payment page opens in the browser. In-app purchases via Apple are disabled for now.
    • Show intro again: shows the intro once more on the next launch.
  • Send feedback: email to the developer (apps(at)uheine.com).
  • Maintenance & Diagnostics: maintenance and debug, self-diagnosis for technical troubleshooting.
  • Reset settings: resets everything to defaults.
