Places and POIs

🇩🇪 Deutsche Version

POI stands for "point of interest", a place that matters to you: home, work, a customer, a parking spot. JourneyPulse knows your own places, finds places around you and can suggest places where you stay for a while.

On this page: Saved places · Search and quick destinations · Radar · Filters · Auto-POIs · Beacon detection

Saved places

The Places tab is the hub for your places.

  • Create a new place: Tap + at the top right. Give it a name and a category, and either use the current position or enter coordinates.
  • Rename and delete: Open the place and use Rename place or Delete.
  • Use as destination: Saved places can be used directly as a navigation destination (Navigation). Alternatively, open the route in Apple Maps.
  • Save search results: You can keep results from the search with Save as place.
  • Mark as customer: If you mark a place as a customer (optionally with customer number and detection radius), JourneyPulse can log working times on arrival and pre-set the trip as business in the logbook.

Two categories have a special meaning: Home (for trip automation and commutes) and Work.

Search and quick destinations

  • At the top of the Places tab there are four quick destinations: Home, Work, Fuel and Parking. Home and Work appear as ready destinations as soon as matching places are saved; if one is missing, the button pre-fills the matching search. With a long press on Home, Work or Parking you choose which saved place is assigned; Choose automatically restores the default.
  • Fuel asks whether you want the cheapest or the nearest station and searches open stations within 10 km.
  • The search shows Your places, Suggestions (POIs) and Suggestions (addresses) (Apple Maps). Under Recent searches the last used destination is at the top; an entry tapped again moves to the front. The history can be removed with Clear history.
  • For results, Start navigation, Route in Maps and Save as place are available.

The icon at the top right leads to the list of nearest hazards, see Warnings.

Radar (surroundings)

Under More → Radar you see a map with places near you. Your own places appear with a blue pin, places found by the radar with an orange star. Tapping a marker shows name and category. The search radius follows the visible map area (zoom freely); the number of places found is shown at the bottom of the map.

In the radar settings:

  • Show only my POIs
  • Show traffic on maps
  • Filter categories

Filters and visibility

Under Settings → Visibility & Categories you decide which places appear on the map, radar and in lists:

  • Show favourites only: Only places marked as favourite are shown.
  • Visible categories: Switch individual categories on or off, including fuel station, charging station, parking, restaurant, café, pharmacy, hospital, hotel, museum, park and many more. Enable all or Disable all quickly resets the selection.

Auto-POIs

With Settings → Auto-POI → Detect places automatically JourneyPulse creates places itself where you stay for a while. This also works inside buildings and from stays in the background.

Setting Meaning
Minimum time at place How long you have to stay for a place to be detected
Radius Area in which the stay counts
Minimum distance between auto-POIs Prevents duplicates
No auto-POIs while driving on country roads/motorways Prevents false places in traffic jams (on by default)

Under Auto-POI maintenance the app suggests names from the surroundings for detected places. You accept them individually or with Accept all suggestions.

Beacon detection

This feature is off by default and only intended for users who use their own Bluetooth beacons.

With two small iBeacon transmitters (one in the vehicle, one at home) JourneyPulse can detect trip start and end as well as the mode of transport more reliably. You'll find the switches under Settings → Home automation:

  • Vehicle beacon: When detected in the car, the trip counts as a car trip for sure; it starts when you drive off and ends when you get out; the parking spot is remembered. A brief signal dropout while driving does not end the trip. Without a beacon the app detects trips from GPS and motion data; the beacon just makes it faster and more reliable.
  • Home beacon: A second trigger besides the area around "Home"; usually reports arrival faster and without standstill time.
  • Beacon UUIDs: Enter the identifier in the "UUID" field directly below the respective beacon switch; it appears once the switch is on. Both beacons must be set to major 5 and minor 6.

Which beacons are suitable is described under Hardware Recommendations.

Requirements: Bluetooth and the location permission Always. Without them the beacons stay silent and the existing detection continues on its own. If the vehicle beacon isn't seen on several car trips, a notice appears to check the beacon battery.
