The Fall of the Observatory of the Unseen - endlessm/threadbare GitHub Wiki
The day the University of the Unseen lost its crown jewel. Built at the very top of the Great Weave, high in the WeaveWatch Wale, the Observatory of the Unseen had a full view of the whole world, and the University filled it with lenses of every kind to watch and study it. It stood as proof that Threadbare's scholars could out-think the Void through patient observation alone.
The Observatory was not lost to the Void. It was taken. After a final confrontation with the other Elders at Frays End, the theft of the Eternal Loom's three elements, and the building of the Denial Looms, Null marched the Obscurists North and took the Observatory from the University, wanting its view of the whole world for their own. The taking tore the mountains open, and around the Observatory the Absurdity Abyss formed. The Void then filled the Abyss, consuming the deep valleys and leaving the mountain tops cut off, floating high above it and covered in Void Creep. The Observists who worked there fled, were lost, or were trapped there, and the observatory that watched the unseen became the Observatory of the Obscure, where Null remains.
Accounts of exactly how it happened still differ, and the University marks the Fall each year not with mourning alone, but with a renewed vow: to keep looking, however costly the last attempt proved to be.
