Welcome to ReLIFE

ReLIFE is an EU-funded initiative that aims to accelerate deep energy renovation of the European building stock by making high-quality data, analysis, and decision-support services openly available. The project develops an open-source platform and three user-facing tools that combine building technical data, financial analysis, and forecasting to help homeowners, portfolio owners, financial actors, policy-makers, and practitioners take informed decisions about deep renovation.

This is particularly important because the European building stock accounts for a large share of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, yet renovation decisions remain complex and fragmented. By making reliable data and transparent analytical tools accessible to different stakeholders, ReLIFE aims to reduce uncertainty, support better investment decisions, and ultimately accelerate the uptake of deep energy renovations across Europe.

The ReLIFE platform

The ReLIFE platform is the project’s main output and the primary way the project delivers on its goal: to make deep renovation decisions easier, less risky and more accessible. It bundles the project’s analytical capabilities into a single, user-friendly web environment.

The platform backend is powered by three core services that do the heavy lifting and turn inputs into actionable outputs:

  • Financial service — translates renovation options into clear economic indicators and funding-aware recommendations (costs, payback intuition, and financing options explained simply).
  • Forecasting service — produces straightforward, scenario-based projections of energy use, comfort and long-term outcomes so users can compare “what if” renovation paths.
  • Technical service — generates practical technical advice and multi-criteria rankings of measures to help prioritise interventions.

These core services are combined to create the three user-facing tools:

  • Home Renovation Assistant (HRA) — a guided, easy-entry tool for individual homeowners and building occupants to get quick, practical renovation recommendations.
  • Portfolio Renovation Advisor (PRA) — a tool for owners or managers of multiple buildings to compare, prioritise and bundle interventions across a portfolio.
  • Renovation Strategy Explorer (RSE) — a tool for planners, policy-makers and analysts to explore stock-level strategies and long-term renovation pathways.

The platform is open-source, modular and designed for interoperability. It supports role-based access, versioned outputs and clear exportable reports so results can be shared, audited and reproduced.

ReLIFE Wiki

This Wiki is the living documentation for the ReLIFE platform: it explains the project goals, the platform architecture, the three services and tools, the datasets, methodological notes, user guides, developer documentation and training materials. It is written for both end-users (homeowners, advisors, policy staff) and implementers (developers, data stewards, reviewers).

The wiki is structured in the following sections — click any item to jump to that page:
