Instead of a staking post, at least for now, Processing Surface with a Bone Smoother is used to work leather.

A staking post is a log with rounded top placed in the ground used for Staking leather.

To make a wooden staking post, take a log and shape it in the following pattern via Woodworking.

Wooden staking post needs to be placed in soil.

Right click the post while holding a Tanned skin to stake it.
