Oasis is a Windows 11 and Linux driver for SteamVR for VR headsets of the Windows Mixed Reality family, such as the HP Reverb, Samsung Odyssey, Lenovo Explorer, or Dell Visor. This driver does not require the Mixed Reality Portal application and is therefore compatible with the latest versions of Windows 11 (24H2 and future).

The driver offers full headset and motion controller tracking as well as a native SteamVR rendering pipeline. It can run OpenVR and OpenXR applications through SteamVR.

Before you get started, it is important to understand the following:

• Mixed Reality Portal is not needed and will not do anything.
• Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR (Steam store) is not needed and will not do anything.
• OpenXR (and OpenXR Tools) for Windows Mixed Reality (Microsoft store) is not needed and will not do anything.
• Headset companion apps, such as the Mixed Reality Headset or HP Reverb G2 VR Headset Setup (Microsoft Store) are not needed and will not function.

You don't need to uninstall the above in order to use Oasis. You will need to install SteamVR from Steam if you don't already have it.

The combination of GPU/drivers/Windows version can be a bit complex, below is a table to help understand what is supported.

1. If you are running Windows 11 23H2, disable the Mixed Reality device in Device Manager to avoid interference. You may re-enable it later if you choose to not use Oasis. If you are running 24H2 or newer, do not disable anything.

2. Install Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality.

3. If your headset does not have a built-in Bluetooth receiver, pair your motion controllers using Windows settings. If you don't have motion controllers, you can skip this step.

4. Run the unlock procedure.

   The most common issue you might encounter here is: "Unexpected error while opening MR USB device: 6". This means Mixed Reality Portal (on older Windows 11) is interfering. This means you missed step 1) above.

5. Run the Room Setup.

   The most common issue you might encounter above is a random crash(!) after a few seconds... This is a common issue after first setup. If you encounter this issue, please delete the C:\ProgramData\WindowsHolographicDevices and %LocalAppData%\WindowsHolographicDevices folders as explained here.

There are a lot of variations on Linux, and I am not going to document them all. I have personally tested:

• Ubuntu 24.04 + X11 + AMD GPU + HP Reverb G2
• Ubuntu 24.04 + X11 + Nvidia GPU + Samsung Odyssey+
• (Steam Deck) SteamOS + X11 + Acer AH101 / Samsung Odyssey+
• (Steam Machine) SteamOS + X11 + Acer AH101 / Samsung Odyssey+

I had no success with Wayland, but other users did. Common issues are outdated Mesa drivers.

You will need to install SteamVR from Steam if you don't already have it.

I was able to use Oasis on a Steam Machine, with the following caveats:

• You must use Desktop mode
• You must toggle Developer Mode and switch Desktop mode to X11 (Steam Settings -> Developer -> Use Legacy X11 Desktop Mode)

1. YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL IGNITION SEPARATELY - OASIS COMES WITH IGNITION PACKAGED AND READY TO USE!

2. Install Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality.

3. Add the 70-wmr.rules file found at the root of Oasis to your udev configuration (make sure to reload the udev rules and unplug/re-plug your headset after).

4. If your headset does not have a built-in Bluetooth receiver, pair your motion controllers with your OS. If you don't have motion controllers, you can skip this step.

5. If your headset has a built-in Bluetooth receiver, run the pairing tool. In the Steam Library, locate the "Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality" application, and press Launch. Select "Launch to pair motion controllers on Samsung Odyssey+, HP Reverb and HP Reverb G2" and press Play. It works similarly to the controller part of the unlock on Windows. If you don't have motion controllers, you can skip this step.

   If the option to "Launch to pair motion controllers on Samsung Odyssey+, HP Reverb and HP Reverb G2" is not presented to you, go to Properties of "Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality" and under "General" change "Selected Launch Option" to "Ask when starting game".

   Note: On first run, a dialog "Wine Mono Install" will pop up, you may click Cancel to dismiss it.

6. Run the Room Setup.
