If you are here, then you are most likely looking for one of the following things:
- QUICKSTART INSTRUCTIONS DIRECTLY BELOW.
- Detailed instructions to run the Procedure to unlock headset and controllers for Oasis.
- Documentation for the various Settings for the driver.
- You are having issues and need to run through the Troubleshooting Guide.
- You are looking for answers to the Frequently Asked Questions.
-
You have exhausted all of the resources above, and you are filing a bug.
- Most issues are user errors or misconfigurations and not actual bugs. Use the resources above to resolve these issues.
- Really, please, do not waste my time by skipping the documentation and Troubleshooting Guide. The answer you are looking for is likely already there.
Before you get started, it is important to understand the following:
- Mixed Reality Portal is not needed and will not do anything.
- Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR (Steam store) is not needed and will not do anything.
- OpenXR (and OpenXR Tools) for Windows Mixed Reality (Microsoft store) is not needed and will not do anything.
- Headset companion apps, such as the Mixed Reality Headset or HP Reverb G2 VR Headset Setup (Microsoft Store) are not needed and will not function.
You don't need to uninstall the above in order to use Oasis. You will need to install SteamVR from Steam if you don't already have it.
The combination of GPU/drivers/Windows version can be a bit complex, below is a table to help understand what is supported.
- Always use the latest stable driver for your GPU. For example, Oasis only works with AMD Adrenalin 25.9.2. Note that AMD Adrenalin RC driver 25.10 do not work.
Windows 10 | Windows 11 (23H2 & below) |
Windows 11 (24H2 & above) |
Notes | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Nvidia GPU | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | On Windows 10, Nvidia GPUs will often crash due to a WDDM issue |
AMD GPU | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ | - Prior to Windows 11 24H2, the AMD driver blocks Oasis to allow Mixed Reality Portal - 60Hz mode is not supported |
Intel GPU | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
-
If you are running Windows 11 23H2, disable the Mixed Reality device in Device Manager to avoid interference. You may re-enable it later if you choose to not use Oasis.
-
Pair your motion controllers using Windows settings. If you don't have motion controllers, you can skip this step.
-
Run the unlock procedure.
The most common issue you might encounter here is: "Unexpected error while opening MR USB device: 6". This means Mixed Reality Portal (on older Windows 11) is interfering. This means you missed step 1) above.
-
Run the Room Setup.
The most common issue you might encounter above is a random crash(!) after a few seconds... This is a common issue after first setup. If you encounter this issue, please delete the
C:\ProgramData\WindowsHolographicDevices
folder as explained here.
