In GnollHack, you can choose one of the following 13 character classes:

• Archaeologist role — Lightly equipped explorer
• Barbarian role — Strong melee warrior with poison resistance
• Caveman role — Strong warrior that starts with a club and a sling
• Healer role — Rich physician, adept at healing spells
• Knight role — Heavily armored melee warrior, adept at riding
• Monk role — Martial artist, adept at several spells
• Priest role — Armored clerical spell caster, who automatically identifies the beautitude of items
• Ranger role — Potent archer, adept at ranged combat
• Rogue role — Versatile warrior, adept at melee and ranged combat and at disarming traps
• Samurai role — Strong Japanese warrior adept at both melee and ranged combat
• Tourist role — Versatile traveller that can specialize in almost every combat and magic skill
• Valkyrie role — Strong female melee warrior, who starts with cold resistance and stealth
• Wizard role — Powerful spell caster who can specialize in many arcane spell schools
