FireSlide™ MakerSlide Idler

Function

3DP idler uses a GT2 16T pulley as idler mounted on M5x50mm screw using two 5x10x4 ball bearings. Belt tension is simply adjusted using a slotted screwdriver.

Requires

  • M5x10mm screw (2)
  • M5 extrusion nut (2)
  • M5x50mm screw (2)
  • M5 locknut (1)
  • 5x10x4 bearing (2)
  • M3 nut (1)
  • GT2 16T or 20T pulley (1)
  • GT2 belt attached in a loop to FSMSCAR carriage and FSMSNEMA11 stepper pulley

Assembly

  1. Attach GT2 belt to FSMSCAR carriage, leaving one end loose for adjustment
  2. Thread M5x50mm screw through one bearing
  3. Thread M5x50mm screw with bearing through one (1) idler hole
  4. Slide GT2 pulley onto M5 screw so that it aligns with top slot in MakerSlide
  5. Slide GT2 belt onto pulley
  6. With M5x50mm screw in one (1) idler hole, take out the slack from the GT2 belt by pulling it through one of the FSMSCAR GT2 slots. Do not overtighten.
  7. Secure GT2 belt to FSMSCAR by tightening M3 screws on carriage.
  8. Lever the M5x50mm screw into position and slide it through the second idler hole (a flathead screwdriver works great as a lever).
  9. Add other bearing to M5x50mm screw.
  10. Attach M5 locknut to M5x50mm screw and tighten gently. If you overtighten, you will break the idler. The nut just has to hold the bearing in place.
  11. Check belt tension. If insufficient, use a flathead screwdriver to increase belt tension (see first picture)
  12. Tighten M5 screws to lock idler in place on extrusion.
