Background

I need multiple controllers for HA. But they don't all need to be beefcake 2u servers. I don't want to build more rack cabinets for this. This enclosure can house a combination of old and new blades: older, same, and newer than the compute servers.

Where Used

IT: OpenStack Servers I'm planning to move the controller nodes onto BL460c Gen6 Blades

General Details

This unit houses 16 "half-height" units, which include most of the servers built for it. All of my blades are half-height. Each HH blade has 2 onboard SAS drives. These blades use proprietary mezzanine cards for PCIe expansion, with up to 2 mezzanines per HH blade.

Extra drives and traditional PCIe cards can be added via half-height expansion units. One such being the HP SB40C Drive Chassis, which provides an array of up to 6 2.5" SAS drives to an adjacent server blade.
