Installation can be done in one of three ways:
- As a standalone component that can be used to script the deployment of the Onboard Administrator firmware
- Via the HPE Smart Update Manager found on (private) HPE Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP)
- Firmware extracted from the component can be deployed using the web-based user interface for the Onboard Administrator
This SCEXE component is a self-extracting executable. The SCEXE file unpacks itself, flashes the firmware on the HPE BladeSystem c-Class Onboard Administrator, and cleans up.
Download the SCEXE file to a server which is on the same network as the Onboard Administrator to be updated.
Run the following command:
sh cpxxxxxx.scexe -target -user -passwd [-s[ilent]] [-f[orce]] [-logdir ] -target The netAddress parameter is the IP address or DNS name of the OA to target. This should be the Active OA if two OA’s are in an enclosure. There is a space between the -target and the netAddress parameter. -user The username is the userid to use when attempting to login to the OA. There is a space between the -user and the username parameter. -passwd The password is the password for the userid to login to the OA. There is a space between the -passwd and the password parameter. -s[ilent] The silent option will silently install the firmware, if needed. -f[orce] The force option will cause the OA Flash utility to either downgrade the existing firmware or reinstall the same version of firmware on the target OA. -logdir This optional parameter is used to redirect the output from the OA flash utility to a different directory than the default location of /var/hp/log/. The redirected location is /hp/log/.
The return codes are:
- 0 Success
- 1 Reserved
- 2 Upgrade is not needed because firmware version is current
- 3 Upgrade is not needed because newer firmware version is present
- 4 Target not found
- 5 User terminated session
- 6 Incorrect parameter
- 7 General failure
- Obtain the latest version of the SPP.
- Place the SPP on a USB key using the HPE USB Key Utility.
- Place this component in the directory, /packages on the USB key.
- Place the USB key in a system which is on the same network as the Onboard Administrator to be updated.
- Launch hpsum from /packages.
- Follow the GUI to install the firmware on the Onboard Adminstrator.
- Extract the firmware binary out of the component.
- Place the firmware image file onto a system on the same network as the HPE BladeSystem c-Class Onboard Administrator.
- Firmware Update is available under the Web GUI's Active Onboard Administrator category.
- Select and upload the firmware image by entering a path to the file, which may be on the local machine, a mapped drive, or a network share.
