Behavior - ZAWA-Evolved/ZAWA GitHub Wiki

Some animal species display special behaviors. Whether it's a fun animation that guests will want to see, or a habit like climbing or swimming that may cause containment issues, keepers should study up on animals' behavior.

Many behaviors are listed on animals' wiki pages, and indicated as icons in their animal data book profile.

As of the first Beef Beta version, many of these behaviors are not yet implemented and cannot be seen in-game.

Bathing

Bathing is a behavior displayed by tamed parrots.

When parrots are given access to a water source block or a feeder block filled with water, they will splash around in it and spray water particles around.

Chatter

Chattering is a behavior shown by tame social birds such as parrots and hornbills.

When in a group of the same species (or entity), birds show a special animation. They generate a unique sound that cannot be heard during normal gameplay.

Climbing

Climbing is a behavior used by many animals.

Animals that can climb are able to scale set block types to explore (or potentially escape) an enclosure. By default, this is logs, stripped logs, planks, wooden fences, scratching posts, ropes, and branches. Some animals can also climb glass and glass panes.

Not every animal that can climb is obvious. Before building enclosures, keepers should double check what they are dealing with.

Animal climbing can be prevented by building carefully. Covering exhibits with bars can prevent climbing animals from getting up a high tree or building and jumping out, and building overhangs on wooden walls and fences will stop animals from scaling them.

Pack behavior

Pack behavior is a potentially dangerous habit displayed by large, social animals. Group predators such as African wild dogs, as well as close-knit primates like mandrills will follow pack behavior rules.

If attacked by the player or by another entity, pack animals will be assisted by nearby animals of the same species. If applicable, pack animals will also assist a fellow animal in taking down prey.

Zookeepers should be wary of this behavior; when capturing animals, it means that an entire pack will consider the player a threat and pursue them. Neglected pack animals will also gang up on a keeper if given the chance, and can very quickly overwhelm them.
