Getting Started

The purpose of this page is to guide you through the onboarding process. This process is designed to get you to a point where you can contribute to the team in a meaningful way. The hope is that you will develop the following skills:

  • Develop basic modeling skills
  • Be able to create/modify an assembly
  • Generate technical drawings
  • Fully understand the procedures and practices of the team

The subsequent pages will walk you through how to begin this process.

What is CAD?

  • The main tool in any engineeringing design process is CAD (Computer Aided Design)
    • Which allows for 3D geometry to be modeled and simulated under various conditions to make sure it meets the design requirements.
    • The software we use is called Solidworks, and it is one the largest industry standard softwares. It shares many of the same features as other CAD softwares, but has a slightly different interface and tools.
  • The hope is that by the end of this onboarding process, you will have become well acquainted with Solidworks and how to use it's features effectively.

Feedback

If there are issues with the wiki and you know what needs to change, please fix it. If you are not sure how to edit the wiki you can find information here: How To Use (START HERE!). The hope is that the wikis will be a useful resource for current and future team members and YOUR feedback is the most important thing to making that happen.

If you feel there is a mistake with the content itself but do not know what should be different, please reach out to your subteam lead and discuss it with them.

Finally, feel free to add your questions and answers (once you get them) to the FAQ if it is not already there.
