As mentioned before, these are the skills required to complete the practice part:

  • Sketch entities - lines, rectangles, circles, arcs, ellipses, centerlines
  • Sketch tools - offset, convert, trim
  • Sketch relations
  • Boss and cut features - extrudes, revolves, sweeps, lofts
  • Fillets and chamfers
  • Linear, circular, and fill patterns
  • Dimensions
  • Feature conditions – start and end
  • Mass properties
  • Materials
  • Inserting components
  • Standard mates - coincident, parallel, perpendicular, tangent, concentric, distance, angle
  • Reference geometry – planes, axis, mate references

If you feel that you don't know any of those skills, make sure you either practice them with an online resource or reach out to a team member before making the practice part.

The practice part will be released and explained during the in-person CAD trainings and/or in the discord server.

Resources

It is very similar to the modeling portion of the CSWA (SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Associate) test.

  • You can go here to look at the practice test for the CSWA: Practice Test
  • You can go here to follow along making the part: Tutorial

Once you complete the practice part, you have completed the CAD onboarding process. You will be ready for the work we will do through the rest of the semester
