Project history - SIMLabHAW/SIMLab-Emergency-Simulator GitHub Wiki
As Carl Sagan once said, “You have to know the past to understand the present.” Thus, to offer an overview of the ES history, this page dives into the past and discusses the events that lead into the ES creation.
The first chapter in the history of the ES came about in 2016, when the students Mescher M, Frick E. and Miera F. developed an ECG simulator for the Scientific Project course at the HAW. The ECG Simulator was developed in a MATLAB environment and relied on the principle of the Fourier Series for its simulation

Not longer after the ECG simulator had been originally developed, Miera F. wrote his master thesis, where the ECG simulator was adapted from a MATLAB environment to a complete web-based application written in JavaScript. With a re-designed user-interface, the Vital Sign simulator was a new application, which included new features like the simulation of the respiration rate and wave, body temperature, defibrillator option and many others.

During the winter semester of 2017/2018, the students Christine Geßner, Chahinez Chaouchi, Ali Emami, Vijayalakhsmi Ananthkrishnan, Eilon Nseir, Dina Gonçalves, Nouena El Hamed and Marie-Christin Carstensen, came together as group for a project in the course of Simulation and Virtual Reality in Medicine at HAW. The project, entitled Emergency Simulator , had the aim of improving the Vital Sign Simulator developed by Miera F. by creating an resuscitation simulating device that could be purchased by cheap price and used in training centers to serve as an educational tool for students.

The application developed by Christine Geßner and Chahinez Chaouchi , which had new features such as SpO2 and EtCO2 wave simulations, was the first version of the Emergency Simulator which would later be used as a foundation for the current version presented in this wiki.
Developed by Christian B. and Serena G., the current version of the Emergency Simulator is a project of the Simulation and Virtual Reality in Medicine course, and it is a continuation of the project from 2017.
The new ES improves the existing features from the old version and also offers many new features as well as a re-designed UI, which aims to offer an even better experience when using the application.
