Motivation - SIMLabHAW/SIMLab-Emergency-Simulator GitHub Wiki

In this page you can get an insight about which factors motivated the development of the Emergency Simulator.

Growing market for healthcare simulations

Simulations for healthcare applications are becoming more often by the day. In recent years the training simulation market has grown significantly in emergency medicine residency programs. Furthermore, it is predicted that between the years of 2016 to 2026 the training simulation market will grown even more and in many fields, not only healthcare.

Scant number of similar products

The number of products that have the same functionality and purpose as the Emergency Simulator is not abundant. Furthermore, these products are often times too expensive for purchasing in a small scale, making them almost inaccessible for most students or small institutions.

Moreover, another downside of most simulators in the market is that they are not open-sourced, which makes it even more expensive in the long-run, due to any add-ons or possible features which were not originally included in the software purchase. It is clear that an open-sourced, largely-accessible simulator, suitable for training and learning would be the best scenario, which is what the Emergency Simulator tries to achieve.

Vast application possibilities

Another aspect that motivated the development of the ES is, of course, the application possibilities of such product. As mentioned before, let alone the market for simulators in healthcare being huge as it is, the learning and training applications of such product is growing everyday. This factor alone would be enough to motivate the Emergency Simulator creation.
