Biography

Okafor joined Parafield in 1979 as a systems technician and rose to shift supervisor by 1984 on the strength of his drill scores. Crews under his command consistently posted the fastest override times in Desync Vent exercises, a record that mattered on the night it counted.

During the October 1987 Thermal Runaway, after the failed primary SCRAM, Okafor led the four person team that entered the reactor environment and manually ejected all four fuel cells into the borated pit within the required synchronization window. Witness accounts in the drill logs describe him counting down the bolts aloud so the team could fire together. The ejection stalled the reactor and prevented total superstructure loss.

All four were transported to the hospital immediately afterward in extremely critical condition from radiation exposure. No further records of Okafor have been recovered.

Personality

Calm under pressure by all accounts. Ran drills the way he ran emergencies: counting aloud, no shouting, no wasted motion. The kind of supervisor crews request by name.
