Description

Bracken Fern is a woodland plant known for its starchy rhizomes.

Generation

Bracken Fern generates in tropical to cold woodland areas of all regions.

Bracken Fern can slowly regenerate after being harvested as long as some plants are left at the given location and even expand if the temperature and terrain allows.

Usage

Braken Fern can harvested to yield rhizomes. Harvest during fall and winter yields bigger rhizomes.

Harvesting by hand takes a while and it is recommended to use a Hand Axe or a Digging Stick.

Braken Fern rhyzomes cannot be be eaten as is.

Fern Flour

To be able to consume a Fern Rhizome, it needs to be processed into dough or flour.

First crush Fern Rhizome on a hard Processing Surface such as raw stone using a loose rock.

Then boil down the Crushed Fern Rhizome in fresh water in a Cooking Pot to extract the Fern Starch.

Lastly allow the Fern Starch to settle into Fern Dough.

Fern Dough can be baked into an edible Fern Cake, or dried and crushed into Fern Flour.

Fern flour can be used as an ingredient to Pemmican.

Notes

• Bracken Fern cannot be cultivated but there are sometimes ways to encourage its regrowth.
