breaking forced associations
in times when syllabic signs and the letters of the alphabet where not abstract but defined through their ( rebus ) root, naturally all words using those signs became strongly associated. This was sometimes alleviated through complement orthograpyh:
Some words especially in later times seem to be spelled out explicitly with breaking boundaries.
