First animal to be domesticated by man.
An extinct Late Pleistocene wolf which may have been the ancestor of the dog split from other wolf lineages between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago. Domestication must have occured later. The Bonn-Oberkassel dog buried beside humans 14,200 years ago is the first undisputed dog. The dog was domesticated in Eurasia, either Central Asia, East Asia or Western Europe.
ANE Ancient North Eurasian
"It has been suggested that their mythology may have included a narrative, found in both Indo-European and Native American fables, in which a dog guards the path to the afterlife." wiki
