Overview
The species exhibits the characteristics of the genus. In addition, after incubation of BHI haemin agar at 37°C for 3 days, cells were 2.4 – 2.9 μm in width and 2.7 – 4.6 μm in length (Park 2021). Colonies are circular, convex, opaque, yellowish and 0.8-1.1 mm in diameter, with growth occurring at 30-41°C (optimum, 37°C), 0.5 – 1.0% NaCl (optimum, 0.5%), and pH 6.5 – 8.5 (optimum, 7.0)(Park 2021).
H. faecis was positive for aesculin hydrolysis, mannose and raffinose fermentation, and negative for gelatine hydrolysis, indole production, reduction of nitrates, and urease activity. Reactions were positive for acids from L-arabinose, D-cellobiose, D-glucose, D-lactose, D-maltose, D-raffinose, salicin, D-sorbitol, D-sucrose, and D-trehalose. Positive reactions were observed for acid phosphatase, alanine arylamidase, alkaline phosphatase, α-galactosidase, β-galactosidase, α-glucosidase, β-glucosidase, glutamic acid decarboxylase, glutamyl glutamic acid arylamidase, leucyl glycine arylamidase, and tyrosine arylamidase, and weakly positive reactions detected for naphtol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase. Negative reactions were detected for N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase, arginine arylamidase, arginine dihydrolase, α-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, α-fucosidase, β-galactosidase-6-phosphate, phenylalanine arylamidase, proline arylamidase, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, serine arylamidase, trypsin and valine arylamidase, and β-glucuronidase.
The type strain AM35T was isolated from C57BL/6J mouse faeces. Genome size is ~3.05 Mbp, with DNA G+C content of 47.8%.
