Cells are Gram-stain-negative, strict anaerobic, and rod shaped with a length of 4.9 μm ± 2.6 μm (Miyake 2020). Colonies on MM media (Romano 2015; Table S2) are round, transparent and colourless.
Oxidase and catalase activities are negative. API20A indicates acid formation from D-glucose, lactose, maltose, D-xylose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, L-rhamnose (weak). API32A is positive for β-galactosidase, α-glucosidase, α-arabinosidase, N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase, α-fucosidase, alkaline phosphatase, leucyl glycine, arylamidase alanine arylamidase. The main cellular fatty acid is C18:1 ω9c; minor CFAs are anteiso-C15:0, iso-C15:0, C15:0 3-OH, and iso-C17:0 3-OH. Phosphatidylethanolamine and phospholipids were detected as major polar lipids. Quinone analysis indicates MK-10 as major quinones in the membrane, while MK-9 and MK-11 were only minor components. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 48.5%.
