Jack russell terriers are a terrier-group dog breed.

Jack russell terriers were added in Working Dogs 1.0.

Gameplay information

Jack russell terriers are a small terrier-group dog. When in working mode, they assist players by quickly wiping out tough-to-catch mobs in the vicinity.

They occasionally spawn as strays in Swamp biomes. They are also occasionally obtainable at shelters.

Jack russells have a base health of 5 hearts (10 points), with a bite damage of 3 hearts (6 points.) Jacks have a high average movement speed, which can vary per dog.

They are able to equip all general dog items: all jack russells can wear the collar, harness and muzzle. Working jacks can be further protected with a hog vest and a service vest. If equipped with saddlebags, a jack russell can carry 9 stacks of items.

Jack russell terriers come in both long and short coat varieties. Long coated jacks are temperate weather dogs, while short coated dogs are hot weather dogs. Long coated jacks get a significant debuff to their health, speed and bite damage in extremely hot or cold climates, while short coated jacks get a debuff in cool or cold places.

Jack russell terriers are bred to be tenacious, fast-moving and aggressive, and have an incredibly high prey drive. They are prone to small prey aggression and pose a serious threat to other small pets.

Breed information

Jack russells are an iconic companion to heroes in media, and a vicious hero in the battle against vermin. Bred to hunt foxes, now mostly used in pest control and as family pets, the Jack is a tenacious terrier with lots of energy.

Like most terriers, Jacks are full of energy, love to bark, and love to play. They are prepared to stick their face right up into danger, whether or not it’s worth the risk. Jack russells contain roughly the energy of a thousand suns, which is well-used in trials like agility, and especially barn hunting.

Despite being a popular pet, Jacks are potentially dangerous and destructive. They’re working dogs through and through, and are notorious for playing rough and biting children, and for killing other pets. A bored Jack will dig out of a fenced yard, or chew through a wall to find something more interesting to do. They are infamous thieves and love to get into trash cans, or onto counters. They require an active owner, and aren’t always the best with kids.

Jack russell terrier breed governing is controversial and complicated, but most dedicated terrier-only organizations allow a variety of colors, sizes and coat lengths as long as the dog can work. Jacks need to be fearless, vocal and super smart, able to solve problems and stare death in the face.

If you’re a farmer with property and a rat problem, Jacks are a great breed - if not, you might want to look at other small breeds that don’t harbor the soul of a larger, more ferocious dog.

Did you know? A famous Jack russell in media, Wishbone, was played by the dog Soccer. His father, Blencathra Badger, was the first Jack russell terrier winner of Crufts’ Best In Show.

Coats

Jack russells have 9 standard coats. All coat colors come in long and short haired variants, for a total of 18 regular coats.

The archetypal jack russell terrier is white with a cute brown eye patch and saddle, which is very common. Jack russells can come in brown pinto types like this, as well as black and tan and black tricolor. Solid black and white dogs are also common, especially in working mixes that have genetics from other terriers.

Like border collies, many jack russells are simply bred for their working ability, so many coat colors and lengths are accepted.

Melanistic jacks are all black with a purple belly, tongue and mouth. Albino jack russells are white with blue eyes.

The numbers listed on the table below are to use with the /summon command. Dogs exceeding the maximum value will always spawn as white.
