Woodshop: Put a Base on It - feralcoder/shared GitHub Wiki
Top Level Public Wiki: feralcoder shared I do car, sewing, wood, and other work in my SHOP One level up: Wood Shop
SERVER CABINET (under construction)
A sealed and vented base on 4 dual-wheel swivels, with locks. Wheels pivot easily on my office carpet. Vented base part of silent airflow and filtration system.
JOINTER
This ones's getting an upgrade, not done yet.
This one was really problematic on all of the cart bases, as shipped from Grizzley. The problem is that 2 wheels in all of those kits are fixed, non-swivel. That means you have to choose a 'rear' on the jointer, but no matter how you do it it's a pain to move. The only reasonable cart under a jointer is 4-wheel swivel...
BANDSAW
It was important to build a cart as low as possible for this one, so it's short enough to stash under the deck.
It also made sense to put 4 swivels on this one to allow it to be repositioned more easily during complicated work.
GRINDERS
This one is on 4 swivels because both sides are "front".
TABLE SAW
This will get an upgrade, not ready yet.
STORAGE CARTS
DRILL PRESS
Hard to get good stability in a small base, still could use some improvement...
PLANERS
Both get a cart, eventually.
INDUSTRIAL SEWING MACHINE (under construction)
On a shitty harbor freight cart raft. Needs an upgrade, lower-sitting would be nice.
INDUSTRIAL SERGER (under construction)
On no cart, but on a sled at least. Sits lower than my sewer, is more stable. Wondering how to approach this - the wobble in swivels may be muy no bueno con el rytmo del machino maximo. I might prefer 2 non-swivels, or flip-down casters...
SHOP TABLES
Table dollies or kick-down wheels would be nice...
DUST COLLECTOR (under construction)
The dust collector with vortex collection stage is moved around as a unit, like a train. The wheels on the dust collector wound up in the middle of the train, making the whole thing very tricky to move. You'd think you could just lift the handle and scoot it sideways, but the handle's cheap and most of the dust collector's weight is right over those wheels and handle. I only did it a couple times, carefully, and it was noticibly degrading the handle stability.
By just adding a bar and swivel casters in place of wheels the whole assembly can now be scooted sideways together.
The casters also lock, allowing me to stretch out the hose without the machine following.
The vortex stage is on its own custom casters, too:
