Preface

  • Tumutch did a whole bunch of stuff and is now some kind of polearm master, sentinal beast of a paladin.

Recap

tl;dr: The group explores a crevasse filled with one-eyed freaks and confront Buldrick about his recklessly violent tendencies.

  4. Intervention

Skirmish

Having set the barracks on fire, the group backs out and closes the doors on the flames.

They catch their breath, take a short rest, and then are surprised by a bunch of Redcoat archers who burst into the room.

There's some blasting and bell-ringing, stabbing and piercing. Hiro turns and walks toward a corner like his A.I. is broken.

All but one of the Redcoats are dispatched. The survivor scurries up and away.

Buldrick attempts to retrieve three faces from three corpses, ends up making a huge mess, and manages to salvage one of them.

Investigating one of the walls reveals a suspicious draft, which in turn reveals a secret passageway leading off into the dark.

Thatso scurries ahead through the tunnel, sees nothing of immediate danger, and so the group prepares to scout ahead.

Crevasse

Fisty and Tumutch (?) lead the way through the tunnel and find a huge crevasse with two bridges crossing it.

Immediately upon entering they are psychically assaulted by creepy voices speaking directly in their heads, "Peace. Food. Hungry. Scared." They sense necrotic energy. Fisty pushes his way to the back of the group, picks up Ducky, returns to the front of the line, sets her back down and looks at her expectantly.

Ducky's like, "Yep. There's some necro stuff going on here."

When she receives a similar psychic message ("Please. Hunger. Flesh."), Ducky decides to help out and appease the voices in the only way she knows how. Asking Buldrick for help, the two of them go back through the tunnel, grab some Redcoat corpse, drag it back to the edge of the crevasse, and toss the body over.

The psychic voices say something like, "Thanks. Yum. Leave. Go!" to which Ducky answers, "Right-o! Leaving now!" And starts to cross one of the bridges.

The bridge collapses and Ducky falls down into the crevasse. It hurts when she lands, like she landed on her keys or something. The bottom of the crevasse is littered with skeletons and bodies. One body up ahead has just the upper half remaining. And beyond that, beneath the other bridge, is a treasure chest.

Fisty flies down into the crevasse to Ducky's aid, and Hiro tosses down one end of a rope.

Ducky is curious about the chest and wants to go check it out. She ties one end of the rope around her waist and tells Hiro that if she tugs on it, to hoist her up. She and Fisty approach the chest.

They're almost at the chest when the constant screaming warnings from the voices inside Ducky's head prove too much for her, and she tugs on the rope and is hoisted up.

Around this time, the speakers of the voices make themselves known as three big ole One Eyed Freaks start to emerge from the dark.

Pankas mage-hands the chest open like a crafty sort of fellow, and Fisty darts toward the chest and rifles through it.

One Eyed Freaks

The One Eyed Freaks are doing some weird psychic stuff to the gang, probing their minds and prying secrets from them. They're also pretty tough, physically. A challenging battle ensues against the three monsters.

Tumutch does some great polearming. There's some blasting and bell-ringing, slashing and stabbing.

Trying to circle around behind the One Eyed Freaks, Ducky dashes back and down into the crevasse and tries to climb up the other side, but slips, and clings helplessly to the side wall as one of the freaks climbs down after her and nearly claws her straight to death.

She missiles the monster right in the face, and Fisty swoops in to finish it off.

The others polish off the remaining two creatures and the threat, for now, is neutralized.

The group pilfers the remaining contents of the chest, which include a cool longsword of historical significance, and then they decide to have a little group chat.

Intervention

A team meeting is called to order.

As the first order of business, Dug is appointed Treasurer. No other positions are assigned or discussed.

As the second order of business, Ducky confronts Buldrick about his corpse-hacking and face-stealing. The conversation is stop and go, with evasions and ultimatums, but the two eventually enter an uneasy agreement: Ducky will procure for Buldrick a total of five faces so that he can make a patchwork mask of human faces to wear in battle to intimidate his enemies. In return, Ducky is assured that Buldrick will not mutilate or desecrate any more corpses. At least not related this particular pursuit.

The end?

From the Desk of Treasurer Hammerhound

We made some great gains this session. Good work everyone.

Early on, we made a little profit by looting a few Red Brandons. Then later, we really made bank when we decided to open that hungry, grumpy, mind-talking chest.

Note: Any previous party funds held by individuals are to be turned over to the treasury as soon as possible.

Treasury totals are as follows:

  • 285 Gold
  • 15 Electrum
  • 316 Silver
  • 2 Garnets
  • 3 Malachite

Notes

  • Chris O. was trying to divide his attention between playing and working, resulting in Hiro acting like he was controlled by a poor A.I. We are unsure of the effect this had on his work.

  • Buldrick's intervention got a little out of hand (and a little out-of-character) and in fact escalated to the point that Drey decided to leave the game for a little while, much to the regret of everybody involved.
