Weld Seams node icon   Weld Seams (node)

Dissolve the seams where tiles meet and fuse the regions on either side.

Two tiles sharing a marked seam drawn as a solid green edge, then one fused region with the seam gone.

Inputs

  • Geometry (any): the tiled geometry to weld.
  • Tolerance (number, editable, default 0.001): how close two endpoints must be to count as the same point.
  • Across Groups (boolean, editable, on by default): whether a seam may pair with a partner sitting in a different group.

Outputs

  • Geometry (any): the same geometry with matched seams gone and the regions they divided merged.

What it is for

Takes a pattern that has been tiled and puts it back together. Every place two tiles meet leaves a line through the middle of what should be one shape, and this removes those lines, fusing the regions on either side into one.

The tiling nodes already do this weld as they go. This is the same operation offered on its own, for when the tiling happened somewhere else or you want to control when it runs.

The pairing rule

A seam is only dissolved when it has exactly one partner, and that partner is also marked as a seam. That single rule explains everything the node leaves alone:

  • Lines you never marked as a seam are pattern, not scaffolding, so they stay.
  • Curved edges are never welded.
  • A seam whose partner is not a seam stays, because the match is not mutual.
  • The outer rim of a tiled field has nothing on its far side to pair with, so it survives and the field keeps its boundary.

Endpoints have to match within Tolerance to count as a pair. Raise it when tiles that clearly meet are not welding.

It works on line work as well as regions: a matched pair of seam segments is removed the same way.

Across Groups

On by default. A tiling can hand you its tiles as one bag of geometry or as a list of groups, and with this on it makes no difference: a marked seam looks for its partner anywhere in the input, group boundaries included. The pattern welds either way.

Switch it off when the groups are meant to stay apart. A seam then pairs only inside its own group, so the boundary where two groups meet survives even with both sides marked.
