Welcome to the documentation for Locus Studio, a new kind of CAD software for parametric geometric pattern design: a compass-and-straightedge construction canvas and a node-based dataflow graph, bridged live, with geometry that stays accurate until you export the vectors.
Use the sidebar on the right to navigate - it's on every page, so you can always see where you are and jump anywhere.
Note
Work in progress. These docs are written alongside the app and evolve with it. Some pages carry a (Confirm against the build: ...) note where a detail still needs a final check against the current version.
- Videos: the Algorista channel on YouTube, playlist by playlist, with each video matched to the pages it covers
- Welcome to Locus Studio: what it is and how the two windows fit together
- Community & support: ask questions, share your work, and get a license
- Installing & launching
- Core concepts: the ideas the rest of the docs assume
- Interface tour: where everything is on screen
- Your first pattern: a short end-to-end walkthrough
- The Modeling window: drawing by construction (points, lines, circles, arcs, booleans...)
- The Nodes window: the parametric dataflow graph and its node library
- Bridging the two: Realize, Reference, and Bake
- Patterns & symmetry: the 17 wallpaper groups and the random-tiler system
- Files & export: saving, and SVG/DXF export
See the Community & support page for where everything goes:
- Questions, ideas, show & tell -> GitHub Discussions
- Found a bug? -> the repository's Issues (short bug-report form)
- A license? -> email your machine ID to [email protected] (not the public boards)
Locus is built on open-source work by other people. The Credits page names the projects and their authors.
