Bettas are ambient freshwater fish that live in shallow streams, canals, and rice paddies. They have a specialized organ called a "labyrinth," and they can breathe oxygen directly from the air.

Spawning and taming

Bettas are rare spawn in ponds, lakes and other water features in wet rainforest biomes. They only spawn alone or in groups of 2.

As ambient, territorial animals, attempting to pick them up will be considered as an attack and they will begin to deal damage to the player. It is recommended to bring along a pair of handling gloves, or use a slingshot net instead. While dangerous, fortunately they are slow. They can also be safely picked up in a bucket.

Bettas cannot be tamed, but are still perfect for your exhibits anyways! As slow speed animals, it should be an easy feat.

Care

Bettas have 1 hearts (2 points) of health, can deal 0.5 hearts (1 points) of damage, and drop raw betta upon death.

As ambient animals, they do not need specialized care.

Bettas can be bred with termites.

Usage

Betta is a food item obtained from Bettas when killed, and is part of several diets to feed tamed animals.

Food

Eating one raw betta restores 2 hunger.

Variants

There are 6 species variants of betta: Betta splendens, Betta hendra, Betta macrostoma, Betta ruilans, Betta mahachaiensis, and Betta brownorum. The remaining 10 (koi plakat, blue veiltail, purple veiltail, black dragon plakat, pastel plakat, red veiltail, black crowntail, white veiltail, gold plakat, and green plakat) are captive-bred only variants that will not spawn in the wild.
