The Prefects are fifth year girls at Saint Alancia's who have been given additional privileges and responsibilities in return for helping the teachers to maintain order and enforce the rules. They are charged with being the eyes and ears of the staff, and are empowered to strip girls to their underwear and order them onto the punishment plinth, though they must justify the latter action to the teachers. They have been given their own space, the Prefect Lounge, ostensibly to aid in the execution of their duties.
For the benefit of American readers, Prefect is British for Hall Monitor. The current prefects are Cindy and Hayley.
