Sapphory is a Sovereign island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean, approximately 70 miles north of the equator. The landmass was formed by volcanic activity in the 21st Century. The tectonic movement necessary to create an area of this size was considerable, and would have been catastrophic had it occurred on land. Indeed, should such an event ever happen in the same way at the same location again, it would destroy Sapphory and kill all of its people. Monitoring for signs of such an event is ongoing at the Mariana Research station on Pridefall island off the coast of Okonrin, but has found nothing to cause alarm in the island's entire history.

96% of Sapphory's landmass is the mainland, with the rest being a series of several dozen satellite islands located within a few miles of the shore. The largest of these is the Isle of Chains, which is used by the Sapphorian Government as a penal colony. The rest are either uninhabitable rock formations, which are home to a remarkable variety of oceanic and marine life, or small paradise islands mostly owned by members of the Sapphorian Nobility as holiday homes and island retreats.

The majority of Sapphory's land is within a few hundred feet of sea level and is temperate all year round. The highest point in Sapphory is Mount Puki, located near the centre of the island, and believed to be the now-dormant volcano that gave birth to the island. The mountain is several thousand feet above sea level and is inclement higher up, due to its height. a large number of winter holiday homes have been built into the side of the snowy mountain, though the peak is inaccessible on foot.

The land of Sapphory is fertile and the island is located in warm seas. But the real treasure is to be found under it, where vast deposits of gold, diamonds, uranium and other precious metals and materials were pushed near the surface by underground volcanic activity. Exploiting these resources early in its history catapulted Sapphory to prosperity, and later to being the only global superpower following the third world war.

Sapphory's biome is a mixture of cultivated farmlands and lush jungle dotted with settlements of all sizes. The jungle covers approximately 67% of the island's surface and is home to many species, including some previously thought extinct.
