Sapphory City, also known colloquially to its residents as "Sapph-City" is the capital of Sapphory, the location of The Royal Palace and the home of Princess Selina as well as most of the Nobility. Due to this, the city is a fortress, protected on all sides by high walls and legions of Town Guards. It has a population of approximately four million and was the first city founded after the discovery of the island. It is located in Western Sapphory, fifteen miles south of Discovery Point. This location was chosen because it offers excellent natural defences.

Founding

In the first months following the discovery of the island, thousands of women and tonnes of building materials were secretly transported to Sapphory from all over the world using mostly shadow fleet vessels and black market connections. The site chosen to found the first city was what is now the Sapphory City bay area, which offered strong natural defences against naval invasion. Nevertheless, with the ever-present threat of discovery and invasion by the nations of the outside world, the city was also walled and fortified within its first year of existence. This limited its growth potential, though settlements quickly sprang up in the areas around it.

Early years

By the time the outside world learned of the colonisation of Sapphory, the population of the city had mushroomed to over two million.

Major areas

The Royal Palace

At the centre of Sapphory City sits the Royal Palace, home of the monarch and centre of Government. The area around the palace is some of the most expensive real estate in Sapphory, comprising Mount Pleasant, the homes of the Nobility, the Financial and Legal district, which houses the Sapphory City stock market, and a number of other important civic buildings. The palace is a major tourist attraction, with hundreds thousands of women visiting Sapphory City to see its key attractions every year. The palace itself is very tightly controlled with security heavier here than anywhere else in the world. The approach to the palace is lined with display posts in which enemies of the crown, political prisoners and disobedient palace slaves are placed as a stark warning to others.

The City Centre

The Town Square and Fallulah Park sit just offset from the Royal Palace and are the beating heart of the capital. Here is where the major shops can be found and most of the city's commerce takes place. Security is high and the majority of the city's punishment measures are placed here as it is the highest traffic area.

Lady Flower Estate

The large suburbs to the west of the city centre are home to most of Sapphory City's middle class. The houses range from starter homes to large seafront properties owned by the wealthy. The presence of the nearby Red Light District depresses the price of properties around the middle of the conurbation.

Honeypot Fields

The breadbasket of Sapphory City, to the far south, the buildings become much more sparse and large areas are given over to farming. While not as remote or undeveloped as the far-flung areas of Wild Sapphory, Honeypot is by far the most rural area of the city.

Lady Gardens

The upper-middle class area of Lady Gardens occupies a large area of the city's East. The homes here are large and spacious and the residents reasonably well-to-do. It borders both the Financial district the Noble enclave of Mount Pleasant, and as such, properties command extreme prices.

Mount Pleasant

The upper east side of the city is the home of the landed aristocracy and lesser Nobility. With its panoramic views of both Widow Bay and the rolling fields of Matriarch Province, the area commands the highest prices in all of Sapphory, and the women here are the richest in the country. Each owns swathes of slaves, who can be seen going about their mistress's business at all times of the day.
