Most of the Financial Reporting Matrix is free. This page lists what needs a license.
How it works: you can turn on any premium feature and try it. Without a license, a "Premium feature - Click here for more info" watermark covers the table. Turn the feature off, or add a license, and the watermark goes away. See Use Premium features for how to get and add a license.
Premium settings in the Format pane

| Row expansion | Stepped Layout | Shows each level of the row hierarchy in its own column, instead of indenting children under their parent. |
| Row expansion | Show Parent Label from level | With Stepped Layout on, shows parent labels from the level you choose. Premium when the level is set above 0. |
| Row expansion | Upwards expansion | Expands rows upwards, so the total row sits below its children. |
| Row expansion | Apply expansion style | Gives rows a separate style while they are expanded. |
| Column expansion | show (the card's on/off switch) | Lets viewers expand and collapse column groups. |
| Values | Scale units | Shows values in thousands, millions, billions or trillions. Premium for any choice other than None. |
| Hide empty rows | Hide empty rows | Hides rows where every value is blank or zero. |
| Ragged hierarchy | Hide children matching parent name | Hides a child row whose label repeats its parent's. |

Show leaf level only only works together with Stepped Layout, so in practice it is premium too.
Premium actions in the visual
These are steps you add from the right-click menus or in Applied steps.

Buttons that need a license
These buttons need a license on every report, even when no premium feature is on. Without one, the button is greyed out and does nothing when clicked.

Where the report runs
Two situations always count as premium, whatever features the report uses:
- Power BI Embedded: the report is embedded in another application. AppSource licenses don't work here, so contact us for an Embedded license key.
- Export to PDF or PowerPoint: when Power BI exports the report, the visual needs a valid license. Otherwise the watermark ends up in the exported file. Export only works with the visual installed from AppSource.
Free features that are often mistaken for premium
You don't need a license for these:
- Custom subtotal rows and row styles
- Conditional formatting
- Column formulas
- Sign factor
- Hide empty columns
- Report lines from the data model (JSON)
- Drill down
- Search
