The Financial Reporting Matrix is free to use. Some features are premium: see the list of premium features.

You can turn on a premium feature without a license, but a "Premium feature - Click here for more info" watermark then covers the table. Add a license and the watermark disappears straight away.

There are two ways to get a license:

Buy through AppSource

  1. Buy licenses on Microsoft AppSource.
  2. Assign them to people. See Microsoft's guide: How do we assign the licenses?

That's all. When a licensed person opens the report, the visual unlocks by itself.

[!NOTE] The visual checks your license when the report opens. If a license is assigned to you while the report is open, close the report and open it again.

Enterprise or Embedded license key

Use this for Power BI Embedded, Power BI Report Server or an Enterprise agreement. AppSource licenses don't work in Embedded or Report Server.

  1. Email [email protected] and ask for a license key.
  2. In Power BI Desktop or the online editor, select the visual.
  3. Open the Format pane, expand License, and paste the key into License key.
  4. Save the report.

Each matrix visual has its own License card, so add the key to every matrix in the report. To avoid that, keep the key in a table or use a copy of the visual with the key built in (below).

Get the visual with your key built in

Download the visual from profitbase.com and enter your key there. Every matrix you add is then licensed automatically.

[!IMPORTANT] Power BI only exports a report to PDF or PowerPoint when the visual comes from AppSource. If you need those exports, use the AppSource version and paste the key into each visual.

Keep the key in a table

Available from version 9.0.0.0

Store the key once in your data model, for example in OneLake or a database. When the key is renewed, you update it in one place and every visual that uses it gets the new key.

  1. Load the key into a table with one column and one row. Don't relate it to other tables, so slicers and filters can't remove the row.
  2. Select the visual and open the Build visual pane.
  3. Drag the key column into the License bucket.
  4. Save the report.

[!TIP] The first time the visual reads the key from the table, it also copies it into the License key box. The box is checked first. So when you renew, update the table, then clear the License key box so the new key is used at once. If you leave the box alone, the visual switches over by itself when the old key expires.

The watermark is still showing

  • License key: make sure the whole key is pasted, with no extra spaces, and that it hasn't expired.
  • AppSource: make sure a license is assigned to your account, then reopen the report.
  • License bucket: make sure the table still has its row and the last refresh worked. Also check that the License key box doesn't hold an old key.
