Mob and Resource Farms

Resource farms

SEE ALSO MOB FARMS and Dyes

Mob and resource farms are built mainly for general use. If guests are not welcome to take resources that will be noted below. Just try to leave something for the next guest.

Crops are farmed in most players' bases but are usually needed, so this is a case where you should ask before use.

Obsidian can be renewably farmed by entering The End, digging up the platform on which you land, exiting The End and repeating. The massive obsidian pillars near the dragon egg will also renew when we respawn a dragon, but not before then.

Wood for sharing can be found in a chest in the tree farm by the west wall of MAMP's base. Also growing in the larger slime farm. And in the tree farm in the big cooling tower, see below.

Many of these resource farms require bonemeal as an input. That can be got by crafting bones any skeleton or multi-mob farm - the current fastest production is probably Doug's Flushing Mob Farm (pink portal on the nether roof from the Rainbow Castle).

Farm
- resources
Location and Travel Notes
Bamboo farm
-bamboo
In the Rainbow Farm, out to the east of the Rainbow Castle Press the button to launch the flying machine and DO NOT LOG OUT OR LEAVE until the flying machine has returned and stopped moving. If the chunk unloads while it's flying, it breaks, which is Sad.
Basalt generator
-basalt
In the Library, 2nd floor, West end Stand just beneath the button, press it, and immediately mine straight ahead of you. The basalt is collected into hoppers and then chests below. For maximum speed, make sure the beacon in the middle of the Library is on Haste II (mine out the red glass block at ground level and go down the scaffolding to get to it) and use an Efficiency V pickaxe. The lava flows are carefully timed so that with EffV/HasteII you break the basalt so fast that it alternates one lava stream generating basalt and then the other, doubling the output. But if you don't care about vast quantities you can just mine it at whatever speed you like.
Cactus farm
-cactus
In the desert SW of the iron farm, a bit S of E of the Guardian farm. Portal on the nether roof on the path to the Guardian farm. Stand around, get cactus, contemplate your life choices.
Clay farm
-clay balls
In the Big Cooling Tower, near the Library Take some dirt in your hand, stand in the right spot on the repeater under the glowstone cover, hold down right click to place dirt on the redstone torch underneath. Watch it turn to mud and then move away over long drying racks before being TNT-blasted into balls. Smelt the clay balls in to bricks or craft them to make clay blocks to smelt in to terracotta.
Cobble generator
-cobblestone
At the back of BP's desert base NE of Spawntown It's a cobble generator
Concrete farm
-concrete
Outside the Rainbow Castle, in the hillside opposite the NW tower, below the bee farm. Load up the dispenser with powder, and half a stack in your off hand, pickaxe in your using hand. Press both buttons, gather concrete.
Dripstone farm
- pointed dripstone
In the original basement (old y=16 level) of the Rainbow Castle - drop down the Central Tower and it's opposite the Map Room Harvest the dripstone using a pickaxe. The floor is mostly obsidian to make it easier given the Haste II beacon effect. Be careful not to break the ceiling or to have a stalactite fall on your head when you chop it down. It takes ages to regrow. You're way faster harvesting it in new 1.18 terrain that has it spawn naturally. Pointed dripstone can be made in to dripstone blocks.
Flower farm
-poppy, dandelion, azure bluet, oxeye daisy, cornflower
-tulips
In the green dome S of the Library past the suspension bridge There are two farms in the dome. One produces miscellaneous flowers - Poppy (red), Dandelion (yellow), Azure Bluet, Oxeye Daisy (both light gray), Cornflower (blue). The other produces tulips - Red, Orange, Pink, Light Gray. Put bonemeal in the dispenser, flip the lever right at the back to turn it on. Pretty inefficient as a source of dyes (except possibly for cornflowers/blue dye or if you're desperate for light gray) but a bonanza if you want flowers. Note the collection system takes a while to filter through to the collection chest. Collection chests are arranged with the related dyes in there to remind you which produces which. See Dyes for full list of what makes what colours.
Glow lichen farm
-glow lichen
In the Big Cooling Tower It's tiny, near the tree farm. Add bonemeal, pull the lever. Glow lichen will grow on the weeping obsidian. Harvest it with shears, and another grows immediately. Hours of fun. Or at least minutes. Or a minute. Next to it there's also a tiny hanging roots farm, a dripleaf farm, and something else I've forgotten but will doubtless rock your world.
Goat farm
-goat horns
Between the Library and the big red suspension bridge Breed the goats. Then wait for them to grow up and butt at the targets in the corners, dropping horns. One half has screaming goats, the other regular goats; they drop different styles of horn. Warning: loud.
Lava farm
-lava buckets
In the Big Cooling Tower Collect lava using empty buckets from the cauldrons. The mean time to refill is close to the time for which a bucket of lava will fuel a furnace, so this will work as a sustainable fuelling strategy if you collect full lava cauldrons fairly frequently.
Micro crop farm
-wheat, carrot, potato, beetroot
Outside the Rainbow Castle, near the start of the Pinkway. Also another one in the shed in the Brickworks, in the middle between the two villager pens. Rapidly produces crops using bonemeal. Faster than ordinary farming, but needs bonemeal. Load up the bonemeal, flip the lever. Hold the appropriate seeds and hold right-click on the dirt block underneath the bobbing piston. If you start with a float of about 5+ seeds you should never run out.
Moss farm
-moss blocks, moss carpet, azalea, flowering azalea, and/or bonemeal. Or pale moss - switch the two moss source blocks in the farm to change between the two
In the Big Cooling Tower Climb up and add bonemeal to the two chests in the middle, go to the left-hand side and flip the lever. Noisy! Watch the blocks wash along and pile up in the collection sorter. Round the back are switches to control the collection system, so you can collect only the blocks you want and let the rest go to compost. If you send everything to compost it works as a reasonable bonemeal farm. There are six sorters for moss because it produces so much that five sorters can't always collect it all from a water stream. The sixth does very little, in truth, but does get a few. It also produces grass seeds which you can collect as well if you want, but are usually left turned off.]
Mud farm
-mud
In the Big Cooling Tower, near the small farms Small farm, turns dirt in to mud via application of water, place with one hand, harvest with another. Don't use too good a shovel or you harvest it before conversion.
Nether plants
-crimson or warped fungus, nether sprouts, and roots
In the Library, 2nd floor, East end Add bonemeal, flip the lever. Don't leave it on too long at once (like <=5 min): the hoppers can't keep up and the number of entities make the game run very slow. Change the blocks in the middle of the shifting floor to crimson nylium or warped nylium depending on which you want the farm to make. Generally you only want the fungus (for growing huge crimson fungus and huge warped fungus) so you can compost the rest to recover some of the bonemeal.
Nether vines farms
-weeping vines, twisting vines
In the Library, 2nd floor, West end Add bonemeal, flip the lever to on, then hit the note block to start. Farm then works automatically until it runs out of bonemeal or you flip the lever to off.
Nether wart farm
-nether wart
The Library The ground floor of the Library is one huge nether wart farm, which was used to farm the nether wart for the red nether brick making up the Library itself and the nearby suspension bridge. Walk up the paths in the middle of the soul sand beds to break the wart once grown. You can use your hands, or a Fortune III tool to get much more. Replanting is a bit tedious and sucky.
Piglin bartering farm
-all the things
On the nether roof at Clapyon Junction. Take or follow the ice boat/railway from the Rainbow Castle. Open the upper hatches and drop a load of gold ingots in front of them (Ctrl-Q drops a whole stack, or click and drop from your inventory). You can safely drop many stacks of ingots and they'll process the lot well before they despawn. Stand back a little and receive their bounty in return. They're quite accurate at throwing to you within a certain range. The barrels nearby help with sorting. What they give back has changed a lot but since 1.16.2 has seemed stable as: Soul Speed books and books (levels I, II or III), splash and ordinary potions of fire resistance, water bottles, iron nuggets, ender pearls, string, nether quartz, obsidian, crying obsidian, fire charges, leather, soul sand, nether brick, spectral arrows, gravel, and blackstone. The first few on the list are the tricksiest for sorting because they don't stack.
Pale oak farm
-pale oak logs
-pale oak saplings
-sticks
In the Big Cooling Tower, beyond the older tree farm, nearest the Rainbow Palace I forget, it's slightly tricky, read the instructions and follow them. Needs bonemeal. It's semi-manual but yields fast, possibly the fastest log farm we have.
Pumpkin carvery
-carved pumpkins
In the builder's yard outside the Cardingtyon Sheds, towards the Mossque Turn on the lever, hold pumpkins in off hand, shears in use hand, face the target block next to the moving piston. Hold right click. If you get the sync just right you carve a pumpkin just before it breaks then immediately place a new one, and so on - but it may take a few tries to get the timing right. Carved pumpkins can then be used to make Jack O' Lanterns.
Sculk farm
- sculk
- sculk sensors
- sculk shriekers
- Ender pearls
In the End, go all the way to the far side opposite the entry platform and the stairs to the appropriate End Gateway portal is marked by towers of sculk. Works with a little but very productive Enderman farm that drops them on to an ever-growing platform of basalt, converting it to sculk with occasional sculk sensors and shriekers on top. The Endermen drop their pearls. You'll need a Silk Touch hoe, probably with Mending and Unbreaking III. Gets you vast quantities of sculk very quickly, and more Ender pearls than it's worth storing. It's a little fiddly but pretty safe - apart from the gaping Void all around you - best read the instructions on the book on the lectern.
Sea pickle farm
- sea pickles
In the big cooling tower, near the Rainbow Palace Feed in bonemeal, flip the lever, get more sea pickles than you will ever need. The water flow isn't quite right so you'll probably need to dive in to get all the sea pickles. Those lovely, precious sea pickles.
Snow farm
- snow layers
-snowballs
On the road in front of the Cardingtyon Sheds If you catch the spaces under the snow golem just so with your shovel, you can gather snowballs ridiculously fast, which you can craft in to snow blocks. Or if you use a Silk Touch shovel, you can gather snow layers
Tall flower farm
- rose bush, sunflower, lilac, peony
In the big cooling tower, near the Rainbow Palace Load up the appropriate dispensers and feed with bonemeal, and flip the lever. For small quantities it's simpler to just bonemeal a tall flower by hand, but if you want loads this will be faster. Rose bush = red, Sunflower = yellow, Lilac = magenta, Peony = pink, there's even stained glass to help and one of the dyes in the chest to remind you.
Tree farm
- logs
- saplings
- sticks
In the big cooling tower, near the Rainbow Palace Multi-tree farm for birch, spruce, oak, and jungle logs, powered by bonemeal. Slightly fiddly and temperamental. Read the instructions on the lectern first, and do not use acacia, do not use oak without using the oak lever, and do not spam the on/off switch. For most trees it generates more saplings than it uses, apart from jungle, where it's supposed to break even but seems to consume them.
Wheat farm
- wheat
Near the Enchanting Hall Stacked wheat farm with villagers and allays. Collect the wheat from the chests at the bottom in the middle. For extra fun, you can manually harvest and replant the wheat in the empty levels in between the villagers and allays, which were abandoned because of allay mechanics.
