Dyes

This is a guide to sources of dyes on the Yon Minecraft Realm. It's mostly written while I have colours and dyes in my head before I forget it.

Dyes in small amounts are useful for e.g. dying armour, text on signs, collars on tamed dogs and cats, beds, fireworks, banners, shulker boxes, etc. And candles in 1.17! In larger quantities they're useful for coloured glass, concrete, terracotta, and wool. For wool you're often better dyeing sheep the colour you want and then shearing them repeatedly - see below for a guide to already-dyed sheep flocks.

For getting dyes in quantity, for a big building project, you'll want a farm for the dye. Here are the main relevant farms for dyes:

Flower farm	In green dome south of the Library beyond the suspension bridge.	There are two wings. Misc flowers - Poppy (red), Dandelion (yellow), Azure Bluet, Oxeye Daisy (both light gray), Cornflower (blue) - and Tulips - Red, Orange, Pink, Light Gray. Uses bonemeal. Quite inefficient in bonemeal since you can't control which flowers will grow, so most of the flowers produced will be usually no use to you, but it may be the least bad option for Cornflowers/blue dye.
Tall flower farm	In the big cooling tower.	Rose bushes (red), Sunflower (yellow), Lilac (magenta), Peony (pink). You can get a new flower by using bonemeal on one of these in the ground, which gets you two dye for one bonemeal, so this is often efficient. For most purposes just doing it by hand will quickly get you more than you need, but if you need ridiculous quantities there's a fast farm for it in the Big Cooling Tower.
Sea pickle farm	In the big cooling tower.	Produces sea pickles with bonemeal, absurdly fast, which you smelt in to lime dye.
Doug's squid farm	Along black path south of the Library.	Produces ink sacs (black) for free.
Iron farm	Portal just outside the nether hub to the NW.	Produces red poppies for free.
Cactus farm	Portal on the nether roof on the route to the Guardian farm	Produces cactus (green) for free.

Flowers grow when you bonemeal dirt or grass. In plains, each X/Z coordinate will grow either miscellaneous flowers (poppy, dandelion, azure bluet, cornflower) or tulips. In flower forests, each X/Z coordinate has one specific flower that will grow on that block (a colour gradient). In swamps, only blue orchids (light blue) grow. In all other biomes, only poppies and dandelions spawn.

Dyes

Most dye sources are crafted into dyes, apart from cactus and sea pickles which need to be smelted. Old school Minecrafters from before 1.14 may forget that ink sacs, bone meal, cocoa beans, and lapis lazuli are now distinct and need to be crafted to turn them in to their respective dyes.

Beetroot can be harvested automatically in a general farm-farm (wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot) once it's grown, but it needs manual replanting, and villagers won't do it. There's a micro bonemeal farm at the Rainbow Castle (in the wall near the start of the Pinkway) that you can use to turn bonemeal into beetroot but bonemealing rosebushes is more efficient.
Orange	Orange tulips. COMBINE red and yellow dyes.	Orange tulips at the flower farm. Combining red and yellow probably better though, because they're so easy to get
Yellow	Sunflower (2), Dandelion	Sunflower in tall flower farm. Dandelions at the flower farm.
Lime	Sea pickle. COMBINE green and white dyes.	Sea pickle farm will get you loads pretty quickly from bonemeal.
Green	Cactus (needs smelting)	Cactus farm!
Cyan	COMBINE green and blue dyes	(n/a)
Light Blue	Blue orchid. COMBINE blue and white dyes.	Blue orchid is the only flower that grows in swamps, so going to the swampy bits and bonemealing randomly there might be worth a go if combining blue and white isn't easier.
Blue	Cornflower. Lapis Lazuli (needs crafting).	Cornflower at the flower farm. Trading with cleric villagers for Lapis Lazuli (1 emerald each, 12 until locked).
Purple	COMBINE blue and red dyes.	(n/a)
Magenta	Lilac (2). Alium. COMBINE purple and pink dyes OR red and blue and pink dyes OR two red and blue and white dyes.	Lilac in the tall flower farm. Alium only grows in Flower Forest.
Pink	Peony (2). Pink tulips. Pink petals. COMBINE red and white dyes.	Peony in the tall flower farm. Pink tulips in the flower farm.
Brown	Cocoa beans.	There's a big wall of cocoa beans at Brightyon-on-Sea.
Black	Ink Sacs. Wither Roses.	Squid farm. Swimming around the rivers killing squid. There is a setup for dispensing eggs to get chickens to be killed by the wither in the wither-killing area in the nether to get wither roses, but this is a terrible way to get black dye.
Gray	COMBINE black and white dye.	(n/a)
Light Gray	Azure Bluet, Oxeye Daisy, Light Gray Tulip. COMBINE gray and white dyes OR black and two white dyes.	Misc flowers in the flower farm, although combining black and white dyes is probably your best bet.
White	Bonemeal. Lily of the Valley.	Bonemeal from any mob farm that yields skeletons, like the multi-mob farms around the place including Korvar's above Spawntown and under MAMP's base, or the two skeleton spawner farms. Doug's flushing mob farm is probably the most productive per minute. Lily of the Valley only grows in forests.

Wool

If you want coloured wool in quantity, the traditional and often best way is to dye sheep and shear them repeatedly. Breeding coloured sheep produces a coloured sheep that's either one of the parent's colours or a combination of their colours. There are several flocks of coloured sheep. Note that some are dyed for different projects so their colours are not permanent:

There's also an automatic wool farm outside the Rainbow Castle where the sheep can be dyed appropriately.
