Mob and Resource Farms
Mob farms
NOTE: Mob farms with a water elevator were broken by update 1.13. Most have now been fixed.
NOTE 2: Bad news! As of about 1.13.1, Aug/Sep 2018, hostile mob spawning has reduced substantially on the Realm, and so many of these mob farms yield very few mobs indeed. Sometimes you can trigger a fresh wave of spawns by going to the nether and back, and/or moving far enough away that the chunks unload.
NOTE 3: Good news! As of about 1.13.2, Nov 2018, hostile mob spawning is back to working as before.
NOTE 4: Bad news! As of 1.14, Apr 2019, the iron farm is not working, because of changes to village mechanics.
NOTE 5: Bad news and good news! At some point at or before 1.14.4, Jul 2019, the Brightyon ocean drowned farm stopped working again, but the Brightyon river drowned farm started working again! Basically, if one doesn't work, try the other.
NOTE 6: Good news! As of Nov 2019, we have a new iron farm that works with the new village mechanics. At least, until they change again. Same portal as the old iron farm, which has been converted in to a villager breeding station. Help yourself to villagers if you want some: they will automatically repopulate themselves.
NOTE 7: Bad news! As of 1.18, Dec 2021, many of the general mob farms are less productive because fewer mobs spawn, thanks to the new terrain generated under y=0 and complex mechanics around spawning.
Mob and resource farms are built mainly for general use. If guests are not welcome to take resources that will be noted below. Just try to leave something for the next guest.
There are many farms - you may want to ctrl-F for what you need. SEE ALSO RESOURCE FARMS for flowers, wood, cactus, sea pickles, beetroot, and more!
Mob - resources |
Farms | Location and Travel | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Bees - honey blocks, honeycomb |
Bee farm | On a far End island. Go to the End via an End Portal in a Stronghold. Then follow the straight line channel and then up the end brick staircase to the End Gateway, the bedrocky thing that spawned when the Ender Dragon was killed. Use the trapdoor to squash you one block high so you can go through. | There's a bee breeder, a honeycomb farm, and two honey bottle farms. Leave any empty bottles behind in the chests, or (preferably) restock them in to the dispensers so there is the same number in each of the nine slots. |
Blaze - blaze rods |
Blaze spawner | Take NW path out of nether hub and into nether fortress. Follow signs to the spawner. The killing and collection point is below the spawner on the ground floor, near the enchanting table and bookcases. | Note Blaze mechanics have changed since this was built and it's not as effective as it was. |
Blaze - blaze rods |
New Blaze Farm | From the nether fortress, follow signs to the New Blaze Farm (it's next to the Wither Skeleton Farm), or follow the orange carpet path on the nether roof. Instructions on signs in the collection chamber. | Uses new lava mechanics in 1.16 (lava now pushes mobs) to push spawned blazes down the hole into the killing chamber. |
Creaking -blocks of resin |
DgC's resin farm | In the Big Cooling Tower, up high - come in off the nether roof or take the minecart clicky elevator. | DO NOT PLACE ANY BLOCKS INSIDE THE SAFETY CUBE. Go to the centre of the farm and climb up. Wait for creakings to spawn at dusk, and lure them in to the chamber by looking at them to aggro them then away (stare at them once they're in the water, they freeze and get pushed in faster). Hit them every 5s or so. Collect vast quantities of blocks of resin from the collection chests in the morning when the creakings despawn. The farm takes not quite the whole day to process the previous night's yield of resin clumps |
Drowned - copper ingots |
MAMP's zombie drowner | Take NW path out of nether hub. Instead of turning left into iron farm portal, continue north. The portal to the farm is just ahead and exits at -192, 66, -427. | Follow the instructions! Drowned zombies do not drop nautiluses or tridents but do (rarely) drop copper ingots.] |
Drowned - nautiluses - tridents - copper ingots |
DgC's river biome drowned farm | From Brightyon, head inland towards the huge thing in the sky, and take the bubble elevator up. | Wait at the killing zone, kill drowned with looting sword. This one stopped working, but is working again very nicely as of July 2019. |
Drowned - nautiluses, tridents |
DgC's ocean biome drowned farm | Through the nether portal behind the Brightyon one. Or sail to the SE following the markers and go up the bubble elevator. | Walk along the skyway, wait at the killing zone, kill drowned with looting sword. This one was working, but has now (July 2019) stopped. |
Frog/magma cube - froglights - magma cream |
Froglight farm | On the nether roof: from the Rainbow Area, take the ice boatway to Clapyon Junction then take the ice boatway south a bit further than that until you see lights off to the right part-way along | Turn the lever on to set the chest minecart going underneath. Then go up the scaffolding tower to the red glass AFK spot way above. Collect output in chest at the bottom. Turn off lever before leaving so the minecart doesn't get stuck. |
Ghast - ghast tears - gunpowder |
Ghast farm | On nether roof, ice boatway past Froglight farm, all the way to the end, change and head east, past the Wither Skeleton farm. | Very simple and straightforward - climb up, stand on the red glass, hit the ghasts that appear. Not hugely productive but how many ghast tears do you need? |
Glow squid - glow squid ink |
DgC's glow squid farm | At the very bottom of the Central Tower in the Rainbow Castle. | Output chest up high in the wall. You can see the glow squid through the glass, and - dimly - the axolotls hunting them. Rates now very low. |
Guardian - prismarine shards, crystals - (sea lanterns) - fish (cod) |
Guardian farm and ocean monument | Take the cyan path on the nether roof. Or take the NW path out of nether hub. Follow the path west past nether fort. Beware ghasts here, which can also hit and anger ZPMs. The signed and prismarine shrouded portal exits at -815, 40, -280 in the empty ocean monument. | Now the monument is drained there are almost never ink sacs - see squid farms below. Farm is now switchable between fully automatic and player-kill (for XP and extra drops with Sweeping Edge/Looting III). Manual kill zone is down the drop. |
Hoglin - cooked porkchops - leather -raw porkchops |
Hoglin farm | On the nether roof, near Clactyon-on-Lava (new nether) | Climb up, get in to place in front of the killing chamber with the fence post behind you, hit the burning hoglins with Sweeping Edge. Caution: You do take occasional damage from hoglins through the gap, and the sorting system is underpowered for the rates it produces so it backs up with prolonged us. |
Iron golem - iron - poppies |
Iron golem farm | Take NW path out of nether hub. The portal is near the hub, before you reach the nether fortress, and signed. It exits near the farm which is at -264, 70, -234 | The old iron farm, built by Korvar, stopped working in 1.14. The new farm was built by Doug to work with the new village mechanics. Take what you need from the underground storage system, or just stand in the corner where the collection streams come together and pick up the drops. The old iron farm is now a villager breeder - take any villagers you need, using the railway if you want, and they'll repopulate automatically. |
Multi-mob farm - bones - arrows - rotten flesh - string - gunpowder - etc. |
Korvar's Spawntown tower mob farm | From Spawntown, just climb the nearby giant tower. | This is the most productive multi-mob farm. Also, you can jump off the top onto the slime block below. Top fun. Note these farms are the only type to produce creepers and gunpowder. |
Multi-mob farm | MAMP's under-base mob farm | The farm is under MAMP's base and will start working after the player has been in the base a short time. | This mob farm produces no spider drops. Note these farms are the only type to produce creepers and gunpowder. |
Music discs and multi-mob farm - bones - arrows - rotten flesh - string - gunpowder - music discs. |
Doug's Flushing Mob Farms | Pink portal to the SW of the Rainbow Area in the nether, pink path on the nether roof. | Two farms next to each other. For the general mob farm, switch on using the lever on the top of the farm, then wait at the collection area high up near the item sorter. For the music discs, climb up from below and use the lever to open the view for the skeletons in minecarts to start shooting at the iron golem. Then use the bubble column to get to the top to turn on the farm to produce creepers to get shot in the crossfire. Wait at the top near the item sorter (few creepers spawn if you're too close.) Collect the music discs from the chests. Beware! They fill fast because music discs don't stack. Don't forget to shut off the skeleton lever afterwards so they don't waste their bow durability. |
Raid - Totems of Undying - emeralds - saddles - sticks - many others |
Old Raid Farm | From the nether hub, go past the Rainbow Castle portals and round the corner. Climb up the scaffolding to the roof, then up to the portal. (There is a portal at ordinary height, but don't use this if you are trying to operate the farm.) To operate it, you need to arrive with the Bad Omen effect, which you get from killing an illager carrying an ominous banner. They spawn occasionally as part of Illager Patrols, and also by the Pillager Outpost. To get to the Pillager Outpost, from the nether Rainbow area, take the minecart towards Brightyon and change trains half way. | WARNING: USAGE NOT UPDATED FOR 1.21 CHANGES IN JUL 2024. This farm is fiddly and dangerous. Arrive with Bad Omen through the upper portal. Flip the lever to set the trapdoors moving. Stand on the lower trapdoor and press the button. You'll fall down in to a water drop, near enough to a villager to trigger a Raid. Immediately move in to the bubble column to shoot back up. All waves of the Raid will spawn together on the platform above, and the raiders will fall down on to the moving trapdoors and in to the killing chamber. Note you can only just see in, so they can't see out. Kill them all promptly: don't hang around or a witch may start healing everyone, or, even worse, an Evoker may summon Vexes, which is Bad. The boats are there to try to contain any Vexes that do spawn. Once you've killed them all, you will have Bad Omen again. (If you forget the moving trapdoors, the raiders all die from the drop, and you won't get Bad Omen.) Wait about 10 seconds for the raid cooldown to end, then press the button again to set off another cycle. There's a sorting system for all the common stackable drops, and an often-overflowing set of chests with the non-stackable ones, of which there are many, particularly saddles, crossbows, and iron axes. Main yields are XP, emeralds, and Totems of Undying, but there are also Ominous Banners and all the witch drops (redstone dust, glowstone dust, sugar, bottles, etc). And lots of sticks. |
Raid - Totems of Undying - emeralds - saddles - sticks - many others |
Stacking Raid Farm NERFED IN 1.21 | From the nether hub, go past the Rainbow Castle, head NE past the Old Raid Farm and then out down the steps, or follow the lime carpet on the nether roof from the Rainbow Castle. | WARNING: NERFED IN 1.21 JULY 2024, USAGE NOT (YET) UPDATED. This is more productive and less dangerous than the Old Raid Farm, but a bit laggy because of the ridiculous amount of drops. You don't need to arrive with Bad Omen. Read the book on the lectern for full instructions. Basically: kill the raid captain and other mob in the boat at the back, taking care not to break the boat. Then immediately go in to the killing chamber before the raid bar is 75% full, aim down, and hit the armour stand every 1.5s. There's a flashing redstone lamp to show you the optimal frequency. In case of trouble (e.g. Vex), run away (or boat or fly) back to the portal and the mobs will despawn. |
Shulker - shulker shells |
Shulker farm | Follow the magenta path on the nether roof from the Rainbow Castle. | As of 1.17, shulkers can duplicate if hit by a shulker bullet under certain circumstances - which this farm exploits. It's a two-dimension farm: on switch in the overworld, collection in the nether. Only use the lower portal. Don't go up (shulkers may aggro and damage the farm) except via the safe viewing areas, where spyglasses are available for your viewing pleasure. |
Skeleton - bones - arrows |
Skeleton farm (A) | Take the nether railway to JK's jungle station. On exit do not take the nearby portal - go through the oak door and follow a short twisting corridor. The portal at the end exits to the farm at 472, 63, -2473 | The farm is an attractive build from outside, looking south at it with jungle behind. |
Skeleton | Skeleton farm (B) | Follow the path out of the SW of nether hub, then a short rail ride. Go past the portal at the end of the rail ride and down some steps. The portal there comes out at -621, 5, 2306 by the slime farm. A signed corridor next to the portal leads to the skeleton farm. | Drops are downstairs below the spawner. |
Slime - slimeballs |
Korvar's slime farm | Go down under Korvar's Spawntown house. | Built before slime chunks were confirmed - less productive |
Slime - slimeballs |
MAMP's slime farm | See skeleton farm (B), above | Huge meeting of 5 slime chunks and multi-floored, but not all dug out. Already productive but likely even more so in future. |
Spider - string - spider eyes |
MrTrousers' WIP | Take the lift down to MrTrousers' mines under his base. Next to the lift is a signed corridor to the spawner. | Also see multi-mob spawners for spiders. |
Squid - ink |
Korvar's squid farm | In the desert close to 0,0. A portal from the nether hub exits nearby, then follow the tunnel immediately east of the portal and down a shaft. | Alas, not working as of 1.13.2: squid now only spawn in River and Ocean biomes. |
Squid | Guardian farm | See above for guardian farm directions. | Squid spawning and being killed by guardians is a useful side effect, but rare, and now the ocean monument is drained, very rare indeed. |
Squid -ink -plus the odd salmon |
DgC's squid farm | Follow the winding black path south from the library, which itself is south along a winding black path from the Rainbow Palace west of the Rainbow Castle. | Zoom up the bubble column, collect the ink as it pops up the column too. Doesn't work if anyone else is in the overworld - the squid have their own mob cap and the farm relies on exploiting their spawn mechanics and breaks entirely if there are places other than the farm for them to spawn. |
Witch - redstone dust - glowstone dust - sugar - spider eye - glass bottle - gunpowder - stick |
Witch farm | North from Spawntown, tunnel from the nether hub or green path on the nether roof | Go up to the top, look down at the armour stand, and attack regularly with Sweeping Edge |
Wither skeleton - wither skeleton skulls |
DgC's OLD wither skeleton farm | Take NW path out of nether hub, follow it into the nether fortress. Follow signs then red carpet to the farm. | Follow instructions on signs carefully! When you have 3 skulls, ask DgC to show you the easy Wither-killing area, which can also serve as a wither rose farm if you spawn in a load of chickens then poison them before spawning the Wither. (Just remember to do most of the Wither-building before you spawn in loads of chickens, because otherwise they get in the way and stop you.) NOTE: As of 1.17 (2021) it is pretty much broken and spawns only a handful of wither skeletons. |
Wither skeleton - wither skeleton skulls -coal -bones |
DgC's new wither skeleton farm | Nether roof along the ice boatway past Clactyon-on-Lava and then further east. | Instructions in book. Pretty productive. |
Zombie | MAMP's river spawner | Stand on the cobble block in the river north of MAMP's base. After a while Zombies get elevated to the pen south of the river. | -- |
Zombiefied piglin - XP - gold - rotten flesh |
The gold and XP farm | Take the signed rail line upwards out of the nether hub, or use the bubble column in the desert to get up there. You may want to ask someone to show you the farm the first time you use it. | Aggravate the zombiefied piglins by shooting one of them from the spot in the middle. Gives XP and gold at ridiculous rates, plus rotten flesh that you can trade with the villagers for emeralds. Can falter if another player is in the nether splitting the mob cap. Do not attempt to take goods from the minecarts! |
