money - LeFreq/Singularity GitHub Wiki

The singularity project is open source and satisfies the criteria for the GPL, but it must still provide a viable way to make money and meet living expenses.

It does this in six ways:

  • The cost of getting the software, if not cloned from a pre-existing computer ("gotta trust the network if")
  • each run of an object can obligate a small payment to an authorized source
  • broken objects in purgatory can offer a bounty for others who fix it.
  • people encoding wants in a WANT language can be paid for the perfection in which they encode the idea. OR perhaps they pay the machines for looking for their want: a file or object matching a particular description... "FOUND: file _, 240Kbytes, on node TERRAVISION. Download?"
  • every search through your system can get you paid of people looking for particular code.
  • for providing the items on the want list.
  • to the singularity maintainer(s), some small cut, perhaps 1% of above transactions.
The commercial version will allow acquiring the software without being "cloned" -- an operating some computer users might find invasive. It will also include printed documentation, a shiny disk with the software, a sticker saying that you can clone your system onto another's. The documentation will give high-level philosophies about the product and how you are making a perfect socio-economic system.
