Ore Pile - unforbidable/tfcplus-bids GitHub Wiki

Description

Please note that this is a potential future feature.

Ore pile represents a bunch of tiny pieces of ore piled up together. One ore pile yields 45 units of respective metal. Ore piles can stack up to up to 16.

Recipes

Ore piles are crafted by combining 9 Ore Bits in the crafting grid. Reversed recipe is also available.

  • 9 ore bits => 1 ore pile
  • 1 ore pile => 9 ore bits

Usage

Ore piles can be smelted into metal in a crucible, or in a small vessel & kiln, very much like ore chunks can.

Ore piles smelt faster than mined ore chunks in a Clay and Fire Clay Crucible.

Iron bearing ore piles can be thrown into a bloomery to be made into a raw bloom but there is a limitation. The maximum possible bloom size is (roughly) 1000 units and 24 ore piles exceed this limit, so a maximum size bloomery will only accept about 23 ore piles. A perfectly good raw bloom will still be produced, but it's size won't be divisible by 100, which means there will be some left over.

To avoid this issue, ore piles can to be combined with other sizes of ore. The following examples produce exactly 1000 units worth of bloom:

  • 22 ore piles + 2 ore bits
  • 20 ore piles + 4 normal ore chunks

Iron bearing ore piles can be used in a blast furnace to produce pig iron without limitation.

Notes

  • Ore piles are more efficient in a bloomery or a blast furnace however breaking ore chunks requires a steel hammer or better, and costs substantial tool damage.
