Multiplayer - turret001/OffGrid GitHub Wiki

On a server, every part remembers the account that placed it. One sandbox setting decides who else may take it or use its controls.
Who may pick up solar parts
Sandbox › Off-Grid › Who may pick up solar parts:
- Anyone
- Anyone carrying a screwdriver
- Whoever placed it, their safehouse, admins and moderators (default)
What the lock covers
Locked: picking a part up, rotating it (the owner stays the same), taking batteries out of a rack (setting 3 only), and its controls: switching a controller on or off (the menu and the monitor's main isolator), resetting its breaker, an equalisation charge, running or cutting a cable (the setting has to let you use both ends), wiring up, choosing and unwiring buildings, and the monitor's LIGHTS OFF. The controls need no screwdriver for the part's own people, and a running part makes no difference to them; with setting 2 anyone else carrying a screwdriver may use them too. For anyone else the rows stay on the menu, greyed with the reason.
Open to anyone nearby: the monitor, Info, power coverage and the almanac, putting batteries in, and cleaning, sweeping and repairing panels.
Inside a safehouse you don't belong to, the game hides the whole Off-Grid menu.
Backup generators: anyone nearby may refuel and repair them. Their switches, their barrels and their cable, and a controller's Generator Auto and START AT / STOP AT, follow the setting above, as Pick up and Convert to normal generator do; whoever converted a generator counts as the one who placed it. For anyone else those rows and switches are greyed with the reason. See Backup generators.
Ownership rules
- Account, not character. A new character on the same account still owns everything you placed.
- Placing is owning. Whoever puts a part down owns it. If an admin moves your panel, the admin owns it after that.
- Whose safehouse. The lock lets in members of the safehouse the part stands in. A panel out in the yard, past the safehouse's edge, can only be taken by whoever placed it, admins and moderators.
- No owner. A part with no recorded owner can be picked up or used by anyone. With setting 2, picking it up still takes a screwdriver.
- Running controller or generator. A running controller or backup generator can't be picked up or rotated. Switch it off, or stop the generator, first.
- Singleplayer. No owners at all: every character can take every part and use its controls. With setting 2, picking a part up still takes a screwdriver.
For server owners
- Update the server and every player to the same version together.
- Books, parts, yard rigs and barn stock come from the server.
- Every player sees the same power as the server, including players who join later and buildings far from the controller.
- Reporting a bug from a server? Send the server's console log too (see Troubleshooting).
