Embrace the AI Terminator - terrytaylorbonn/auxdrone GitHub Wiki

I have fully embraced the AI "Terminator" (in reality just a digital librarian) to

  • search for info and
  • as my programming copilot

This page explains why.

I enjoyed my first job out of college writing assembly level programs for Intel embedded. But when the time came to move to higher level languages, I struggled. With these new languages I was dependent on low-quality documentation to figure out crytic error messages. Programming became the bastion of those who enjoyed hunting for the magical command that would fix some crypic error (like some Indiana Jones movie where he's flipping through a book looking for a magic phrase).

It was an advantage if you loved such movies and games like Dungeons and Dragons, because you also inevitably loved the new computing paradigm, searching through documentation for hours or days to find the magic answer that would fix some cryptic error, bringing the fire-breathing dragon that was your computer program to life.

Those days are now over. When I now run into some cryptic error, I am no longer the slave, but the master. I have AI assistants/copilots that

  • answer my specific questions and
  • never get tired (always alert and ready to help).

Kind of like the scene from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", where Sarah Connor reflects on the Terminator's role as a father figure to her son. That was a strange scene, comparing a robot to a father figure, but its a perfect analogy for the kind of roles future AI assistants will fill.

My prompt to ChatGPT and the answer:

PS: My apologies to those experts of action movies like Indiana Jones and The Terminator, who know all the related trivia, whose expertise has now been replaced by ChatGPT. :) You are not alone in having your expertise demonetized... This is a great scene from "A Few Good Men" long before Google search, where Demi Moore's character truly impresses Tom Cruz's character when she demonstrates her ability to discover all the details of his personal history.

:) Embrace the future.
