Background

Kathryn Kennedy founded her eponymous winery in Saratoga in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains near Silicon Valley.

Vineyard

1973: Eight acres of vines were planted on their own roots by Kathryn and her extended family on 7 acres of land.

Initially sold fruit for two vintages to Mount Eden Vineyards in Saratoga.

2007: Estate Vineyard transformed to Certified Organic Status by CCOF.

Winery

1979: Kathryn established her brand and winery.

1979-1988: The winery produced only Estate Cabernet.

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Kathryn became known for her Estate Cabernet, packaged in a distinctive silver label that bears her signature. This flagship wine is an age-worthy bottling limited to 600 cases per year. The winery is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon wines capable of achieving world-class quality with age.

Succession

1981: Son Marty Mathis joined as winemaker and has continued the winery's legacy.

Kathryn left the winery in the hands of Marty Mathis, who continues to produce the acclaimed Estate Cabernet.
