Hi, I'm not sure why some CF cards work and some don't. I have several brands other than SanDisk that work, but in general I doubt any card with a capacity larger than 256 MB would work. Magic-1 uses very old IDE protocols, which newer cards may have dropped support for.

As far as Master/Slave IDE/CF, the main thing you need is a dual-connector cable - such as this one:

Then, you'd need a second IDE2CF adapter. Here's one on AliExpress that looks like it would work:

Jumper one of the adapters to be master and the other slave and it should work.
