Ominous Cookies are a starter (albeit a dangerous food to start with) that can be consumed for a medium amount of nutrition and saturation. It was added in Version 1.2 (Thirst Quencher Update).
"This cookie comes from a Darker Plane... ...Suddenly, you don't feel hungry anymore."
This tooltip description for this item is actually a Cookie Clicker reference! I haven't played the game myself, but the person who suggested the item knows way more about it than I do, so here it is.

Usage
Eating an Ominous Cookie restores 8 Hunger Points (4 🍗) and 9 Saturation, and the player Rolls The Dice of Fate.
Consuming this item afflicts the player with Blindness for 10 Seconds, and initiates an FTL Jump.
FTL Jumping
When this item is consumed, there is a chance that the player will be instantly teleported between 1 and 1000 blocks in any direction. The exact chance is unknown due to it actually being a bug--this item is supposed to always teleport the player. It's likely caused by the item attempting to teleport the player into a chunk that isn't yet loaded, and failing to do so, letting them safely eat the item without consequence.
This means that players who run Minecraft at a higher Render Distance are significantly more likely to initiate an FTL Jump when consuming an Ominous Cookie.
