Changing the Warthog from wheels to tracks - norlab-ulaval/Norlab_wiki GitHub Wiki

  1. Get all this stuff (Most of it should be in the warthog box):
  • Lift (The one that is all black, the other gray one does not go high enough)
  • Wood pieces from the "Dépannage" packout
  • Blue towels
  • WD40
  • Grease
  • Blue and red ratchet kit (We need a 9/16 and 11/16 ratchet with extension)
  • Tracks
  • Candles (Picture below)
  • Screwing guides (Picture below)
  • The four "Bracket triangle" (Picture below)
  1. Raise the rear of the Warthog by placing the lift near the hitch with the two wood pieces on the lift
  1. Place the candles underneath the Warthog to secure it in case the lift fails (See picture above)
  2. Make sure the warthog powertrain is engaged (Not in neutral)
  3. Unscrew both rear wheels with the 11/16 ratchet and place them aside
  4. Use a blue towel and WD40 to clean the screws you just unscrewed
  5. Put the warthog powertrain in neutral
  6. Unscrew the three gray screws behind the plate but not the black one on the top (Using 9/16 ratchet). You can use the big hole in the plate to pass the ratchet as in the picture below
  1. Place the "bracket triangle" and screw them using the screws from last step. The bracket is asymetric so it should fit in only one direction. Like on the picture above, you can use the big hole in the plate to pass the ratchet
  1. Find the rear right and rear left tracks. Look for the yellow sticker on the image below to know which track goes where
  1. Make sure the tracks have the black plate placed like this. We usually store them with the black plate on the inside
  1. The holes in blue are the bolt pattern for the wheels. The holes in red are the bolt pattern for the track. Notice that one hole is common to the two patterns. Place the common hole on top just like in the picture
  1. Place the track's holes that are marked red (See picture below) into the red holes from the picture above. Dip each screw in grease and then hand screw them in place. You can help yourself with the screwing guide (Black stick) by placing them in the holes before placing the screw.
  1. Once the four screws are in place, you can use the 9/16 ratchet like on the picture below to tighten them. You can tighten a screw then rotate the tracks to align the next one.
  1. Screw the suspension into the remaining bracket triangle hole using a screw and a lock nut. The nut should be on the side of the track so that you can pass a ratchet and an wrench to tighten
  1. Screw the black plate on the Warthog body like on the picture below.
  1. Release the lift and repeat steps 2-16, but with the front wheels

  2. On both side, screw the black bar underneath each black plate

  1. Once all the tracks are in place, re-engage the powertrain for all the wheels

  2. Make sure you have four remaining screws (One per tyre) and store them in the box. We will need them once we put back the wheels.
